ROLE OVERVIEW The Senior Cost Engineer will provide cost estimates on new product development products across a multi-category and mix materials product lines. The successful candidate will be an individual contributor, bringing excellence in product cost analysis, supporting cost infrastructure development/maintenance, and will influence product cost optimization throughout toy development process. The ideal candidate will have experience in wood, plastics, electronics, textiles and offshore outsourced manufacturing models. This role will report to the manager of product development engineering but work cross-functionally in the corporate business office.

The Materials & Cost Engineer will also have sourcing influence responsibilities. And, it will be essential to provide timely and fully-detailed preliminary cost estimates for all categories in a global channel environment and identify downstream capabilities essential to the successful realization of the product.


Work withinternal and external parties as a team in order to achieve identified target costs for new products

Prepare internal product quotes based on preliminary function description and sketches for new development projects as well as existing products

Liaise with China Engineering Office to update materials and components list for new projects as required

Work closely with Design and development teams to provide accurate estimates that help reach target costs

Refine full Bill of Materials, component sourcing options and material alternatives as appropriate and per guidance as requested.

Create detailed internal prelim cost estimates based on early design phases

Establish, Access and maintain companies costing database and component lists

Identify costing operations improvement opportunities under guidance of the Engineering Manager

Ability to scrub factory quotes to assess accuracy and identify all product cost saving opportunities


5-10 years?experience in cost engineering in a consumer product or children?s/toy category environment

Bachelor?s degree in Mechanical or IndustrialEngineering

Basic Knowledge of CAD (SolidWorks) required

Expertise in Global Sourcing strongly desired

Must have advanced experience in using Microsoft Excel, and Word

Experience in plastic resins, silicone, and all manner of fabrics/textiles, wood, and simple electronics

Strong analytical skills.

Ability to facilitate work across diverse functional teams globally

Knowledge of manufacturing processes across multiple materials and mix material products.

Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Need to generate solutions in a competitive environment with the delivery of highest end quality products.

Displays effective communication skills internally and externally. Command of spoken Mandarin an asset.
