Senior Controls Engineer


Garlock (an EnPro company) is currently seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our Operations Division in Palmyra, NY. The Senior Controls Engineer will mainly be responsible for troubleshooting, installing, improving, and designing control systems for manufacturing equipment within industrial environments. The Senior Controls Engineer will be tasked with qualifying new installations and modifications for production use and for assisting with equipment troubleshooting. The Senior Controls Engineer will also be responsible for leading and mentoring engineers and technicians on project work and will be tasked with training plant personnel on the operation and maintenance of equipment and modifications.


Responsibilities of the Senior Controls Engineer:

  • Design and develop control Systems to automate current processes
  • Develop engineering designs for equipment and layouts
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to support plant systems
  • Introduce new technology and automation into the manufacturing process
  • Define needs and develop solutions including implementation of new equipment and upgrades
  • Identify problems in existing manufacturing processes and development solutions
  • Assist with developing and implementing new products and process designs
  • Develop project resource requirements and specifications for equipment and line modifications
  • Prepare and submit requests for project funding, purchase specifications and requisitions
  • Prepare electrical drawings for new installations or equipment modifications
  • Schedule and facilitate design and project status meetings with contractors, consultants, plant personnel, and management
  • Determine functional requirements for new equipment and identify upgrade requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process and machine problems to ensure and improve manufacturing efficiencies and uptime


Required Qualifications and Education of the Senior Controls Engineer:

  • 7+ years of Industrial Manufacturing experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 2+ years of project management experience
  • Working knowledge of process controls systems and applications
  • Proficient in programming PLC’s (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and VFD’s
  • Knowledge of “AutoCAD” or Solidworks
  • Familiarity with vision systems and robotics (preferred)
