PACE is Rio Tinto's internal management consultancy group. We are part of the organization's Growth & Innovation Business Unit. Our team is organized around a data analytics function and a more traditional management consulting function. PACE is recognized by Rio Tinto for providing world class insights & pragmatic solutions to the different product groups. We are commended for our ability to deliver and work in a hypothesis driven way to provide high-value impact under stringent timelines.

Since our creation in 2017, the PACE Montreal Hub experienced strong growth and has been involved in a number of strategic topics at Rio Tinto. To continue to supportthe business, we are looking for a Senior Consultant to join our team which is creating the next generation of Rio Tinto's leaders.

The position is based in Montreal with travel to deliver management consulting services to our operations. Reporting to the Consulting Lead, you will:

  • Work directly with the PACE leader for a given project to:
  • Process large quantities of data in an efficient & organized manner
  • Develop hypotheses for areas of opportunity or improvement
  • Constructively challenge the status-quo and provide input into strategies to optimize the business performance
  • Actively and respectfully share your point of view in a multi stakeholder context
  • Help plan and scope the required activities needed as part of the project
  • Prepare documents and synthesis of results for effective communication
  • Participate in key workshops and activities as assigned in the project
  • Support those working on the project to lead and sustain the methods and practices
  • Demonstrate autonomy while being a key team player
  • Deliver results to the organization and ensure the implementation plans to support your recommendations are in place
  • Ensure all material and documents are appropriately captured in PACE's knowledge management system
  • Recommend cross-fertilization of practices globally across PACEin collaboration with the PACE leadership team

About you

Your previous work experience speaks for itself and demonstrates your adherence to a high standard work ethic. You should ideally have:

  • Five years management consulting experience, or two years management consulting experience combined with three years industry experience. Operational experience is highly regarded
  • Experience in transformation projects and in implementing recommendations to deliver results
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting analysis, ensuring accurate and updated data from varying sources and interpreting complex results to find key opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise critical thinking and challenging pre-established conceptions
  • Good understanding of business improvement principles and practices
  • Experience in project management and change management
  • The ability to work in English and French as our clients are bilingual


  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field e.g. Business, Engineering
  • M.Sc. or MBA desirable

PACE Consulting is a new internal management consultancy embedded within Rio Tinto's Growth and Innovation (G&I) group. It comprises a team of management consultants and data scientists & engineers, focused on working with each part of the business on opportunities that will deliver the highest possible value. Rio Tinto has established PACE to support the business in many areas where it has previously sought external management consulting expertise.
