Job Description:

The Total Rewards team requires a Senior Compensation Consultant who will support Sun Life US by providing analytical expertise for compensation initiatives to ensure alignment with Sun Life’s Total Rewards Framework.  The incumbent will manage mid-sized projects and work streams, and develop, implement and support programs, processes and tools that align with effective employee, people manager and business partner experiences in relation to compensation.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Develop relationships with HR Business Partners to ensure appropriate solutions in support of business unit requirements and lead support for them during the annual performance cycle
  • Participate in HR Business Partner/Management discussions regarding initiatives/changes in organization structures and provide corresponding compensation and job evaluationsupport
  • Analyze the market competitiveness of SLF compensation programs and perform complex research and analysis
  • Utilize data and analysis to deliver innovative solutions to HR Business Partners and/or leaders
  • Provide senior level analytical expertise for compensation programs
  • Act as a project manager for medium to large compensation-related projects or work streams
  • Review, develop, communicate and implement appropriate solutions (programs, processes, tools) in support of providing an effective client and HR Business Partner experience in relation to compensation
  • Possess a thorough understanding of internal and external compensation design, practices and policies and industry trends and practices
  • Handle complex inquiries from HR colleagues


  • Strong knowledge of compensation practices and theory
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and spreadsheet analysis
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving and financial modeling skills, with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and consulting skills
  • Proven ability to build effective partnerships and communicate complex concepts in simple terms
  • Strong project management and planning skills
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of HR programs and connections
  • Ability to take initiative and resolve complex situations
  • 6 - 10 years experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Completion or progress toward CCP or CHRP designation preferable
