About the team:

Refinery29 is actively seeking an innovative, hyper-creative and out-of-the-box thinking Senior Art Director to elevate the visual execution of our Branded Content, Events, Video – the true crossroads of digital and physical within R29. The Senior Art Director will work cross-departmentally on the Design team, reporting directly to the Design Director, and must be highly collaborative and fueled by the desire to advance our brand in this particular category within the industry and the world.

What you'll do: 

  • Concept, design and produce visually arresting concepts tied to Branded Content, Advertising, Events, and Video
  • Maintain and advance the Refinery29 creative vision within our Branded Content, Advertising, Events, and Motion constantly keeping our R29 Brand aesthetic fresh and on brand across all mediums
  • Concept and propose new Creative outputs for R29 and for our Luxury Clients to create multifaceted executions across varying styles and mediums
  • Interface directly with many different types of Luxury Clients and help lead the creative execution to push forward sold partnerships while pushing forward the R29 brand aesthetic
  • Ensure conceptual and creative consistency between sold programs–ranging from online to printed to motion to experiential while project managing in conjunction with creative and clientexpectations
  • Work closely with a team of Designers and Animators to make sure all work is as creative and compelling as possible with strong performance
  • Periodically question, interrogate and examine design trends, always being on top of our content staying fresh and feeling new
  • Leading by example to create award-winning design work across Branded Content, Advertising, Motion, and Events
  • Identify key collaborators and contributors across mediums, including but not limited to, photographers, illustrators and motion graphics artists, expanding our freelance bench and network
  • Work closely with Design Director on overall team structure, strategy and vision for future projected company goals
  • Manage and oversee a team of Designers to develop career goals and plans, and conduct bi-annual reviews
  • Assign and allocate projects across the team within Branded Content and/or Events and/or Video
  • Ability to develop custom branding and typography with specific font making software

What you have:

  • post-secondary diploma in Graphic Design
  • Must have minimum 5 years of progressively responsible art direction experience with an established media publication, ad agency or technology company
  • Experience working directly with clients—creatively problem solving and being able to tell both stories (client + brand) effectively
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under tight timelines
  • Experience must include graphic design, brand design, custom font design, typography, photo art direction, and spatial design, with experience translating graphic design to print, digital (desktop and mobile), experiential, product, and motion, and experience leading a team of designers
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, (including Acrobat, Bridge, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop), Google Suite, Keynote, and font editing software (e.g. FontLab or Glyph) required
  • Knowledge of color theory, print production process and techniques, and layout and grid principles required
  • Strong, open, positive and persistent communication style
  • Solutions-oriented mentality
  • Genuine ability and desire to collaborate and contribute to a team effort but also workindependently
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under tight timelines
  • Strong desire to develop creatively and push the R29 visual brand forward continuously
