Job Summary:

The Application Engineer (AE) will help test and deploy new driver bureau demographics, photo Driver License / Identification enrollment, verification, and issuance systems throughout North America. As part of the deployment process, AEs author and execute Integration and Acceptance Test Plans and Installation and Configuration Guides to meet project requirements. This individual must be able to work multiple technical areas, often self-guided in the building and testing of end-to-end system solutions. AEs will work with procurement and deployment planning to move integrated systems through lifecycle management from development to onsite installation. AEs are responsible for deploying all software in the following environments during a deployment: QA, UAT, and Production. They will work closely with the customer and the Program Manager to insure that pilot, UAT and ultimately production deployments go smoothly.

Experience with windows software based systems that include complex user interfaces and advanced peripheral devices in a distributed network environment. XML scripting a plus. Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, inter-personal) are required. Ability and willingness to travel for some assignments is required. Travel requirements vary widely depending on what stage the deployment is in: production roll-outs can require extensive travel. Extended on site assignments will also occur from time to time. Travel commitment 30% first year, likely increasing to 50% thereafter.

Essential Job Functions (includes but is not limited to):

  • Manage internal environment requests. Develop and deploy virtual environments and upgrade, configure and deploy SW.
  • Participate in customer SW deployments during maintenance interval: typically on weekends (once per quarter)
  • Work with Deployment Automation team to develop and debug automated deployment tools.
  • Manage and maintain production, UAT (pre- production) and training applications.
  • Work closely with development, QA and Systems Architects to anticipate needs and facilitate environmental readiness.
  • Manage tasks, troubleshoot SW issues, and log defects using Jira.


Required Skills

  • Multi-platform Web Services and applications (Microsoft/Java)
  • Baseline PKI cryptography deployment experience
  • LDAP and Active Directory administration experience
  • Devops / Agile development and deployment experience a plus.
  • VMware orchestration experience a plus.
  • Powershell scripting experience a plus.
  • SQL server administration a plus.


Required Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in a technology area, or proven equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience in end-to-end systems integration
  • 2+ years managing VM environments.
  • 2+ years experience leading customer-facing end-to-end system integration projects
