The Chemours Fluoroproducts Analytical (CFA) organization located at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE is seeking to engage a Senior Analytical Chemist.  CFA is a leveraged organization focused on partnering with the research community in Chemours™ to solve technical challenges and enable business productivity using advanced measurement techniques and the expertise of our analytical scientists.  The successful candidate will be expected to lead a variety of research efforts on behalf of multiple business units, act as a technical resource in separation techniques and mass spectrometry with particular focus on structure elucidation of unknowns, and develop and provide functional guidance to junior colleagues.  This is a highly visible, key role within the Company and the technology function. This position will report to the Technology Manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage analytical design and innovation for major R&D programs
  • Think creatively, problem solve and develop innovative solutions based on sound scientific analysis
  • Consult and collaborate internally to support R&D, operations, technical services, marketing, regulatory, etc.
  • Broad knowledge of chromatographic separation technologies with  specific expertise in LC desired
  • Application of mass spectrometric techniques for elucidation of unknown chemical structures and trace analysis of components in complex matrices (HRMS experiencedesired)
  • Manage multiple projects and workstreams effectively and efficiently, cooperating across analytical competencies
  • Remain well-informed of advancements in their field and develop/maintain external credibility (publishing and presenting research, as appropriate)
  • Mentor and develop junior colleagues


In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry or related field (MS with equivalent experience in HRMS would be considered)
  • Expertise in chromatography (LC desired) and advanced MS/MS (Q-ToF desired)
  • Demonstrated experience with complex sample preparation techniques
  • Strong technical leadership skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

The following skill sets are preferred:

  • Experience in environmental chemistry and matrices
  • Experience with interpretation to support regulatory filings (e.g. EPA and REACH)
  • Familiarity with organofluorine chemistry
  • Familiarity with polymer characterization techniques
