Job Overview

Reporting into the director of turnaround management office, you will be accountable for the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of all aspects of turnaround services relating to Suncor turnarounds. You will provide support, direction and mentoring to turnaround teams across the enterprise.

Key Accountabilities

  • Implementation and sustainment of Suncor’s turnaround program, ensuring consistent application across all major facilities, sustaining the process by helping to ensure the development of turnaround expertise
  • Drive establishment of new processes to support the turnaround management program and integration across the organization
  • Assist to collect (and audit) turnaround performance KPI’s
  • Development and implementation of creative practices and technologies
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and sharing them across other sites
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regional labour organizations that support turnaround execution
  • Establish a network both internally and externally to gather industry intelligence to aid in our Turnaround delivery.
  • Investigate best practices in other organizations within the refining industry or other industries and bring those processes forward to enhance  the Suncor process
  • Support budget development and management of Suncor turnaround programs
  • Co-delivery of national training programs for turnaround specific job functions

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Fifteen plus years of growing responsibilities with hands on experience in a maintenance, turnaround and major projects environment
  • Experience in development and management of contracting strategies and engagement of contract organizations required to supply several thousand persons in the execution of a turnaround
  • Experience in the development, implementation and sustainment of complex work processes, along with supporting technologies
  • Experience with the management of maintenance organizations including budget development and stewardship, personnel training, backlog management, asset management, troubleshooting
  • Experience with project management of large, complex projects to include scope development, planning, estimating, scheduling, controls, assurance (gate control) and staffing
  • Previous oil and gas experience is preferred
  • A trade certification and a recognized degree in project management or an engineering degree

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability of building collaborative relationships from all organizational levels from trade supervision to VP/SVP positions
  • Broad knowledge of turnaround, maintenance and project business processes including their respective supporting functions and relationships with other business functions or highly specialized and recognized technical/business process expertise at the authority level
  • Ability to intuitively identify risk during turnaround project reviews across all focus areas (scope, engineering, operations, estimating, planning, scheduling, controls, execution, contracts, etc.)
  • You are able to identify and assess root causal factors and barriers hindering optimal turnaround  performance
  • Able to build a common vision of programs and environments to enable broad improvements to turnaround performance across diverse business unit needs
  • Experienced in preparation and delivery of presentation materials to various senior levels.
