Job Description

We are currently searching for a Senior Accountant  in our Birmingham, Alabama office.  The Senior Accountant will be primarily responsible for investments related to general ledger accounts including recording journal entries for investment transactions, schedule preparations, roll forwards and reconciliations.  The position will work with their supervisor to gain an understanding of the impact to financial statements of assigned accounts and journal entries.  The Senior Accountant will understand and perform internal controls in compliance with established policies and procedures and maintain an understanding of GAAP and SAP that is applicable to the assigned area(s).

Main duties of this position include:

  • Responsible for all investment related general ledger accounts including complex transactions, reconciliations and account maintenance.  Prepares journal entries, notes, schedules and otherfinancial information with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Understands General Ledgerdatabase structure and suggests changes to simplify workflows. Can extract/report General Ledger data for assigned area(s) and write complex financialreports.
  • Able to interpret impact to financial statements of any account or journal entry in assigned area, identify trends and perform complex analysis of data.  Able to present findings to groups and speak intelligibly about complex accounting issues.
  • Prepares or assists with preparation of a variety of financialreports or portions of financialreports on assigned basis of accounting or audience (GAAP, SAP, management).

Job Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA or advanced degree is preferred.  The ideal candidate must have 5+ years of accounting experience and advanced skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word.  Experience with database General Ledger software is preferred.  The ideal candidate needs to have investment accounting experience, knowledge of investment accounting principles and regulations to maximize compliance with GAAP, SOX, SEC, NAIC, etc.  The candidate must have excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, including formulating logical and objective conclusions; solid analytical and research skills, problem resolution and math skills required.  The candidate must be able to work independently.
