This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager, with responsibility for the accounting management of the main CHRISTUS operating fund, the CHRISTUS Emerald Insurance investment fund, the CHRISTUS Cash Balance Plan investments and other investments held at local foundations or other operating entities. This individual must work closely with the Treasury department in completing the accounting for the Bond Fund which holds all the externally issued bonds for CHRISTUS Health. Currently, this position also does the monthly accounting for Amatista and Strategic Growth. The position assists in the internal and external audit process by providing requested information and assisting in the preparation of financial statements and footnote disclosures.

The position requires demonstrated ability to adhere to timelines, multi-task on various work flows, develop work processes meeting internal control guidelines, interpret accounting guidance and maintain skills and work at the Accountant-Lead/Senior level and to produce accurate and timely financial reports. This position is a resource for all regional accounting managers and their teams to assist in the application of accounting policies to investment transactions. This position will also support Treasury in managing CHRISTUS' relationship with its investment custodians.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure proper accounting for investments and investment-related transactions.
  • Identifying opportunities to implement internal control improvements and implement recommendations from internal and external auditors as it relates to investments.
  • Ensure proper reporting and disclosure of investment information in interim and annual financial statements, including fair value disclosures.
  • Prepare year end audit reports for external auditors related to investments. Identify and research audit issues and questions.
  • Support Senior Management, Regional and Corporate Associates with data requests and analyses.
  • Coordinate special projects assigned by the Accounting Manager of Foundation and Investments or the System Director of Corporate Accounting.

A. Education/Skills

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting
  • Advanced computer and spreadsheet skills required, primarily Excel
  • Detail-oriented, detail-oriented, detail-oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Deadline-oriented and ability to multi-task
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to work independently but who also knows that sometimes and most efficient approach is to ask for help
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels of personnel in a large organization
  • Knowledge of Meditech preferred

B. Experience

  • Five or more years of advanced experience in senior level or above accountant role with investment accounting experience.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry strongly preferred

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • CPA strongly preferred
