With general direction and considerable latitude for independent judgment and discretion, this position is responsible for monitoring the scrum processes and scrum meetings. This role is responsible for team efficiency, motivating the team, promoting and influencing for changes that will ensure quality and timeliness. This role also ensures DoD (Definition of done) is being followed.


This position typically performs work in a corporate or field location and reports to a Director or above in Product Engineering. This position also works collaboratively with cross functional teams across the organization.

• Responsible for facilitating projects and guides cross functional teams in executing the principles of the Scrum framework

• Acts as a servant leader to the team, and facilitates planning, team learning in the form of reviews and retrospectives, and adaptation of the process to ensure quality of team/solutions

• Ensures the tracking and reporting of daily activities.

• Responsible for removing impediments that prevent a team from completing the work it has negotiated for a given sprint

• Managing stakeholder expectations regarding target scope, schedule and budget

• Facilitating daily scrum, sprint planning, sprint demo and iteration meetings

No formal supervisory responsibility entailed, although this position may serve as a resource for other employees and will hold responsibility for project teams.



Knowledge of software development and/or business management as normally obtained through completion of a bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering, Business, or a related degree or a closely related field

Scrum Master certification (PSM I, CSM, PSM II, PSM III, CSP, CTC) preferred.

Work Experience or Related Experience:

Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least two years for a Scrum team is preferred

Experience being on multiple Scrum teams in a variety of different contexts (different team sizes, different organizations, different cultures, co-located vs. distributed, etc.)

Track record of continued and recent education in Scrum, including training, conferences, user groups, self-study, etc.

Participated in Scrum Master training

Has solid skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency

Knowledge of applying a wide variety of well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous burn down techniques, numerous retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.

Previous experience as a collaborative leader

Excellent communication and mentoring skills

Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Experience applying a wide variety of well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous burn down techniques, numerous retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.

Knowledge of other approaches discussed in the Agile space: XP, Kanban, Nexus, LeSS, SAFe, Crystal, FDD, etc.

Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games

Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team


Proficiency with business and communications software (preferably Word, Excel, PowerPoint, common Windows operating systems, and Outlook) is required.


Occasional overnight travel and travel spanning 1 to 5 days to customer, client and company facilities.


Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. This position frequently has exposure to outdoor weather due to travel.
