Alpine Immune Sciences is seeking a highly motivated Translational Scientist to join our team and support the preclinical and clinical development of innovative immune-modulating therapeutics. This position will contribute to the discovery and implementation of biomarker and diagnostic strategies across Alpine’s drug development programs in oncology and autoimmune disorders. A strong knowledge of immunology and tumor biology is required, along with an interest in developing biomarkers for clinical trials. The individual will work in a cross-functional environment to design, execute, and interpret translationally-focused experiments. Activities include experimental approaches to biomarker identification, and generation of genomic data that supports patient stratification and pharmacodynamic evaluation of drugs and mechanism of action in the clinical trial setting.
Qualified candidates will be independent and thrive wearing many hats; have a proactive attitude and strong desire to contribute to the identification and validation of biomarkers to support indication selection of our candidate therapeutics; fit in well with the collaborative, rigorous, and entrepreneurial spirit of our company culture.
Duties and responsibilities
•Use genomic approaches to identify biomarkers for patient selection and mechanism of action/pharmacodynamic activity for implementation in preclinical/clinical programs
•Design and conduct in vitro and ex vivo experiments to probe the mechanism of action of our immuno-oncology and/or inflammation/autoimmunity therapeutics
•Contribute to study design of in vivo pharmacology studies in oncology and/or autoimmune models to ensure statistical and biologically meaningful genomics results
•Mine publicly available data sources to identify targets and predictive biomarkers
•Collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., discovery, in vivo pharmacology, bioanalytical) to translate disease biology and the pharmacology of our therapeutic agents into clinical biomarkers
•Ph.D. in molecular biology, immunology, or relevant scientific field with a well-documented background of scientific achievement, or equivalent experience in biotech/pharmaceutical drug discovery and development. Title will be commensurate with experience.
•Expertise applying NGS, single cell RNASeq, and big data analysis tools to in vivo and ex vivo immuno-oncology and/or inflammation/autoimmunity models
•Understanding of advanced bioinformatics and/or data pipelining using R, Python, SQL, etc.
•Excellent record keeping, communication skills, and computer skills including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism
•Facility with data visualization tools like Tableau, Spotfire a plus
•Statistical background with demonstrable application to elucidating mechanism of action
•Expertise in standard immunological assays
•Experience in translating disease biology and the pharmacology of therapeutic agents into clinical biomarkers for patient selection highly desirable
•Working knowledge of established and state-of-the-art molecular, cellular, and imaging technologies (e.g., high-plex immunohistochemistry) highly desirable
•Strong strategic and critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate (written and oral) complex biomarker data with statistical rigor
