We are seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join and help drive new efforts in exploratory research and the discovery of therapeutic targets for heart failure. The successful candidate will execute discovery and translational research efforts aimed at identifying and characterizing novel therapeutic targets for cardiomyopathy to support mechanism-based drug development. This research position is within a highly collaborative and dynamic department that strives to achieve high quality and in-depth research. This position reports to VP of Disease Biology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will be responsible for:
- Conducting scientific research to understand the molecular pathogenesis of heart failure and define new therapeutic targets
- Working in collaboration with different functional groups to advance state-of-the art techniques at the molecular level of research
- Communicating and collaborating with members of project teams in the execution of laboratory experimentation
- Maintaining working knowledge of principles and theories, applying such knowledge to the research that supports Company interests.
- Demonstrating technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and independent thought in suggesting experimental design and research strategy.
- Presenting results of work in departmental or Company meetings, training fellow scientists in molecular biology techniques
- Making contributions to scientific literature and conferences through publication and presentation of research results.
- PhD degree and postdoctoral training in biomedical sciences
- More than 10 years of bench experience in molecular biology and cardiomyopathy research
- Experience in independent development and advancement of scientific projects directed toward common team goals.
- Experience in advising and leading junior scientists in new assay/model development, project identification and execution, and manuscript preparation
- Demonstration of strong publication record.
- Research interest and experience in the mechanism of cardiac genome regulation, including epigenetic regulation, enhancer/promoter biology, and RNA editing and silencing.
- Hands-on experience in constructing complex/large gene plasmids and production of recombinant proteins in bacteria or in insect cells
- Hands-on experience in generating genetically-modified mouse line for cardiovascular research: design and generation of CRISPR-based or ES-based targeting constructs for mouse line generation
- Hands-on experience in histopathology, immunostaining, mouse echocardiography, transaortic constriction, and surgical instrumentation (such as catheterization) of mouse hearts
- Hands-on experience in isolating primary cardiomyocytes (adult and neonatal mouse) and culturing iPS-derived cardiomyocytes and gene knockdown technology in those cells for molecular biology studies
- Hands-on experience in preparing heart tissues and libraries for RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, RNA-IP-seq, ChIRP-seq, or chromatin-conformation assay
- Knowledge of heart failure pathogenesis
- Strong background in molecular biology and use of animal models for disease studies
- Ability to develop new techniques and methodologies as dictated by research need and introduce new technologies or methods to the team
- Ability to stay current with the scientific literature and state of the art, as well as interpret literature results in light of new findings
- Independence in problem solving and advancement of scientific projects toward common team goals
