Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and analyzing scientific literature to identify opportunities and liabilities for protein therapeutics.
  • Devising miniaturized biochemical assays to evaluate enzyme function under models of physiological conditions (e.g., stability in serum or subcellular compartments, reactivity rate, inhibition profile, selectivity, and cellular/subcellular targeting)
  • Developing and interpreting analytical methods to quantify biomarkers and enzyme activities in complex milieu (e.g. HPLC, UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS, and ELISA)
  • Identifying, developing, and managing external collaborators (academic, industrial partners, and CROs) to advance project needs.
  • Oral and written communication with Codexis R&D, senior leadership, and external collaborators.
  • Training of junior staff and transfer of protocols.
  • Data analysis and utilization of a LIMS system to track samples and analyses.
  • Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
  • Participation in lab organization, housekeeping, and weekly maintenance activities.

Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Biology/Biochemistry preferably with 2+ years of post-doctoral or industrialexperience or exceptional M.S. candidates with 10+ years of experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of biochemistry or enzymology evidenced by publication in top journals.
  • Knowledge and skills to conduct biochemical assays, interpret data, and suggest improvements.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical development (HPLC, LC-MS).
  • Experience in sample preparation from biological matrices for both small and large molecule analysis.
  • Extensive background in enzyme production, isolation, and biochemical characterization.  Experience with eukaryotic expression hosts is highly desired.
  • Background in animal models of disease is preferred.
  • Experience managing outside vendors is preferred.  
  • Ability to adapt, learn, and provide methods, analyses, materials, services in a fast paced environment.
  • Effective communication (oral and written), documentation (record keeping, lab notebook, reports, SOPs), organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail, safety, and good laboratory practice.
