Altus Group U.S., Inc. has an immediate opening in its State & Local Tax and Advisory practice for a Sales Tax Manager. This is an opportunity to join a growing practice at a leadership level with unlimited career opportunities.

The Altus State & Local Tax and Advisory team serves clients from privately-held to Fortune 500 companies, in a variety of industry segments across the United States. Consulting assignments typically deliver value-added services that maximize savings and minimize exposure on behalf of our clients through: Audit defense, Reverse audits, Nexus Surveys, Voluntary Disclosures, Tax Matrix Development, Transactional Analysis, Buy-side Due Diligence and Tax Automation Implementation Assistance.

Successful applicants will work in a dynamic team environment that provides opportunities for career growth across a number of different tax areas including sales & use tax, business license taxes and gross receipts taxes while emphasizing excellence in client service, practice development and individual skills development. Depending on the position being applied for, job activities and responsibilities may broadly include:

  • Supervising day-to-day tasks that ensure successful completion of engagements
  • Reviewing analyst's work product and developing analyst's skillset
  • Data analysis, spreadsheet development and review, tax research and technical writing
  • Working with state officials and negotiating the settlement of refund claims and audit appeals
  • Building client relationships and professional networks through regular contact with partners, clients, prospective clients and state tax officials
  • Developing of transaction tax skillset through participation in continuing education events
  • Participating in practice development through identifying and implementing process improvements, in addition to identifying and capitalizing on market trends

Job Requirements:

The preferred candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or other business related field
  • CPA or CMI designation preferred
  • Ability to supervise others in a positive manner and prioritize subordinates' work loads
  • Experience with multistate sales and use tax or business license tax preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive tax/accounting/auditing experience with supervisory responsibilities
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner
  • Superior writing, research and communication skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and database software skills
  • Working knowledge of sales tax functions in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc.
  • Ability to multitask while meeting tight, client-driven deadlines
  • Excellent personnel and client management skills.
