Our team is growing quickly and we need a strong manager who can also contribute to the technical sales process, work closely with customers. This manager will also need to be a hands-on technology leader both inside the company as well as with our customers. The manager will have several direct reports and will be expected to collaboratively manage the team in concert with the sales team to ensure alignment on objectives, goals and take ownership for outcomes.

Previous experience with search, data analytics, Hadoop, Spark and/or BI is required, along with over 7+ years of experience in a pre-sales engineering and 2+ years in a management position. Must demonstrate the experience and ability required to lead technical teams. Knowledge of Solr is a major plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, grow and mentor a team of sales engineers, aligning the team with sales leadership, product and go-to-market strategy
  • Own and lead technical sales process, being accountable for driving sales (net new opportunities, upsells and cross-sells) within your portfolio of accounts—in partnership with your sales engineering team and account executives
  • Understand the value chain from data to user to action to value—across multiple use cases—and effectively articulate search-driven applications and technology strategies to your account base
  • Develop processes and best practices that dramatically increase the productivity and effectiveness of your team
  • Provide input into account strategies and territory plans, helping to shape the company’s go-to-market efforts
  • Provide feedback to product and engineering, acting as an advocate for your account base

  • Excellent presentation skills: able to engage both technical and business stakeholders, from developers to executives
  • Strong presence and credibility required to anchor Lucidworks sales engagements
  • Ability to learn new concepts and adapt quickly in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage team responsibilities
  • Experience leading strong technical teams
  • Experience at a search company is a plus
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly
  • Knowledge of SQL, relational databases and ETL
  • Development experience with Java is a plus
  • Knowledge of distributed systems
  • 7+ years as a Sales Engineer
  • 2+ years management experience
  • Experience meeting challenging customer time constraints
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills including verbal and written—in person and remote
  • Outstanding listening skills
  • Must be able to relate to all personnel levels within a customer organization
  • Experience delivering technical presentations & product demonstrations
  • Ability to communicate business impact & value
  • General knowledge of machine learning concepts & algorithms
  • Comfort working with both Linux and Windows Server
  • Knowledge of Apache Solr is a major plus
  • Extensive travel within the Western region will be required – assumed to be 50%.
