Job Role Summary

The Safety Relief Design Engineer provides daily technical support and guidance to a team performing safety facilities studies for ExxonMobil refineries and chemical plants.  Currently the Company is seeking to fill Safety Relief Design Engineer positions in Houston, TX,  Beaumont TX, Joliet, IL, and Baton Rouge, LA.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Perform and/or lead pressure relief system analysis in support of projects and site activities
  • Responsible for delivering efficient and accurate Process Safety Pressure Protection Manager (PSPPM) studies and solutions
  • Assist sites with risk based decision making on the recommendations that result from pressure relief studies

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum 5years of previous experience in the oil, gas, or petrochemicals industry
  • A minimum 3years of experience performing contingency analysis with PSPPM
  • Previous academic and/or practical experience with flare modeling tools, such as, Pressure Protection Manager (PPM), Visual Flow / Visual Flare, or FlareNet
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and proven ability to influence others

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of Process Design fundamentals with respect to safety, including, overpressure scenario identification and PSV sizing via API 520/521 methodology; pipe sizing and hydraulic calculations; pipe pressure and temperature rating; control valve sizing; and heat exchanger rating
  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring technical teams
  • Fundamental understanding of distillation tower, pump and compressor operation and performance
  • Previous practical experience with a steady state process simulation tool, such as PROII or HYSYS
  • Experience in Process Safety and Risk fundamentals including Risk Assessments and HAZOPS
  • Direct experience working at oil and gas operating site
  • Domestic and/or international relocation flexibility for future assignments
