Thales Canada employs staff across main sites located in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver.Position Title: Intermediate Safety Specialist, RAMS EngineeringLocation: TorontoJob Purpose:Intermediate Safety Specialist provides key RAMS engineering inputs in the development and implementation of Advanced Train Control (ATC) Systems. In this role, you define technical and functional safety requirements, hazard analysis including identification, assess safety risks, review mitigations, evaluate the design and verification and validation evidence, and track hazards throughout close-out process. At any given stage it is vital to analyze and evaluate design compliance with safety requirements and safety principles.Main Responsibilities:• Perform hazard identification and hazard analysis studies (PHA, SHA, HAZID, HAZOP, FTA, FHA).• Define technical and functional safety requirements for train control systems.• Analyze and evaluate design compliance with safety requirements and safety principles.• Conduct safety analyses and verify that the train control systems are safe (FFMEA, FMECA, FSA).• Record hazards in Hazard Log, assess safety risks, review hazard mitigations, evaluate the design and track hazard status throughout close-out process.• Work as part of integrated project team and promote company's safety policy and best practices.Key Skills and Qualifications:• Education and technical background in electronics, computer science or electrical field (minimum B.Sc. or equivalent).• Minimum 2 years relevant experience in system architecture for complex systems, application of safety design principles, hardware and software safety concepts.• Exposure to risk modelling and assessment, safety methods and techniques: FTA, FMEA/FMECA, HAZOP/HAZID.• Familiar with safety related standards  EN 50126/128/129/159, IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882/1629, MoD 00-55/56/58, ARP 4761, IEEE 1474, AREMA.• Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and oral.• Ability to prioritize and work in a fast paced environment.Desirable expertise:• Working knowledge of rail signalling principles and train control systems - Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), Solid-State Interlocking (SSI).• Experience in a technical role in real-time and safety critical systems in aerospace, train control, medical, nuclear, automotive.• Member of Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) or Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE).Thales thanks all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Thales is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace and welcomes applicants from the four designated groups (women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and aboriginals) to apply for employment.  At Thales, we provide accessibility to people with disabilities.  Should you require accommodations, please consult with your recruitment office and they will work with you to make any adjustments that best suit your individual needs.
