The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Responsible for the development, implementation and management of plant-wide Safety Programs. 
  • Develop, implement and maintain safety programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention and risk mitigation.
  • Manage medical surveillance programs; i.e. hearing conservation, respirator protection, personal protective equipment programs, and MDA.  Manage the industrial hygiene and ergonomics programs.  Act as facility liaison between Occupational Physician, and the employee to resolve any identified issues.
  • Collaborate with operations and support groups to establish and maintain a safe work environment through effective coaching of personnel in the importance of following safe work practices, reviewing procedures to ensure health and safety concerns are addressed, and take appropriate action when deficiencies are identified.
  • Participate in project reviews to ensure health and safety issues are adequately addressed prior to the startup of the process.
  • Participate in operational readiness reviews and thorough review and approval of written operating procedures and engineering controls to minimize/mitigate operational risk.
  • Work through others to provide timely resolutions for health and safety concerns by defining the issue, work with stakeholders in establishing action plans and priorities, expediting repair and providing technical assistance where needed.
  • Develops, implements safety training programs to ensure knowledge transfer and overall regulatory compliance.  Updates training curriculum to ensure latest training methodologies are incorporated into training program.
  • Maintain the Emergency Contingency plan and participate in plant emergency preparedness activities, including the Hexcel Emergency Response Team (HERT).  Conduct periodic drills of the Emergency Contingency Plan and assess for effectiveness and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensures all safety regulatory reporting requirements are met in a timely manner.  Ensure timely tracking and reporting of key safety KPI’s.
  • Ensures all safety regulatory recordkeeping requirements are met.
  • Develops and maintains a professional working relationship with regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures property and building regulatory requirements are met and coordinates inspections with insurance carrier on a periodic basis to ensure overall compliance.  Includes fire protection and property/loss control.
  • Develops and implements safety processes to improve the safety capability, mitigate risks and reduces costs.
  • Submit maintenance work orders (MAXIMO) to address safety issues in plant.
  • Responds to plant emergencies accordingly to ensure safety of employees, security of plant and operational effectiveness.
  • Assist in internal and external safety audits to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee chemical approval process to ensure compliance and employee safety.
  • Accompany outside agencies such as company insurance carriers, OSHA inspectors, property specialists, State Fire Marshall representatives during inspections of plant facilities.  Correct any violations and advise agency as well as appropriate management of dates which violations were corrected.
  • Review new and revised safety regulations to determine necessary action and compliance.
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents and ensure proper reports are filed in a timely manner. 
  • Assist in the development of annual departmental budget(s).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degreerequired; preferred in a technical field such as Occupational Safety, Environmental Science or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years related manufacturing experience.
  • Familiar with and can interpret accurately OSHA regulations such as confined space entry, control of hazardous energy, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, hazard assessments, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, blood borne pathogens, powered industrial trucks, electrical safety, working a heights, contractor safety, and other applicable standards as they may apply.
  • Working knowledge of Workers Compensation system.
  • Self-starter; possess excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving ability.
  • Must work well in a team environment and be able to interface with employees on a daily basis.
  • Must have excellent presentation skills with ability to speak in public effectively and provide presentations to groups of employees.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and LEAN/Six Sigma Principles is a plus.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Process Safety Management is a plus.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, or related software.
