We are seeking a highly motivated research scientist to lead and contribute to the broad area of telerobotics, including novel approaches to human-robot teaming, machine vision, robot manipulators, autonomous control, robotic surgery, and deep reinforcement learning for physical systems.
(Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task)
1. Conduct original research in novel telerobotics and human-robot teaming to overcome key technical barriers for remotely operated robot systems and supervised autonomous robot systems. This includes contributing to and/or leading applied research in areas such as human-machine interactions, dexterous manipulation, computer vision, AI applied to robotics, and other related topic areas. (60%)
2. Develop, apply, implement, and demonstrate original research applied to military, space, disaster-relief, health care, and other real-world applications. (20%)
3. Provide input to team leads and other researchers to help define research vision and inform technical direction, and support reporting of accomplishments and contributions to sponsors and research community. (10%)
4. Prepare scientific manuscripts and whitepapers summarizing results to communicate impact of research, develop concepts of operation with mission relevance, and engage with sponsor and stakeholder community. (10%)

•MS or PhD Degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent and 3 years experience in any of these areas.
•Demonstrated ability in selecting, developing, and applying robotics and human-machine teaming approaches to complex challenges.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to articulate complex technical issues effectively and appropriately for a wide range of audiences.
•Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and lead teams.

•Experience with common robot frameworks and modeling tools such as ROS, Gazebo, and/or OpenCV.
•Software engineering / programming experience, with hands-on experience in at least one of the standard development tools/languages such as Python, Java, C++/C, MATLAB, and R.
•Demonstrated capability to carry out original research beyond incremental application of existing techniques, as evidenced by publications in premier conferences.
•Research records that illustrate in-depth understanding of underlying theory necessary to develop novel solutions to address unique real-world challenges.
