Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates schedules and conducts site visits to assigned VA medical facilities for investigative, evaluation, or informational purposes as directed by senior management.
  • Conducts focus site visits to evaluate specific issues and concerns related to the members or to a VHA facility.
  • Compiles and writes reports on scheduled site visits and focus visits to be sent to the Secretary of Veteran?s Affairs.
  • Provides clinical expertise in matters concerning the provision of clinical services and the quality of those services, as they relate to veterans with spinal cord injury or disease (Helpline).
  • Conduct investigations; prepares reports and letters of inquiry in response to patient complaints about the quality of medical care.
  • Prepares information in response to inquiries by organizations, professionals, and individuals with an interest or involvement in spinal cord injury or disease or related issues.
  • Establish and maintain communications and rapport with Veterans Administration personnel related to medical and healthcare issues about spinal cord injury or disease.
  • Attends conferences, prepare presentations, and accept speaking engagements related to medical and healthcare issues.
  • Provide reports both written and oral in support of the Field Advisory Committee and other departments requiring professional nursing input.
  • Authors articles and responses to care questions for publication in Paraplegia News.
  • Collaborate with the company National Staff on all issues concerned with the education of health professionals, patient health education, and other aspects of staff development and continuing education.
  • Collaborates with the National Architecture staff as consultants in the design of facilities and equipment needs of the SCI/D members.
  • Serves as faculty at training seminars and otherinternal and external functions. Plans, prepares, and conducts individual training presentations.
  • Perform other duties relating to the mission of the department and the company, and conduct special projects as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Registered Nurse, who is currently, licensed by a state, commonwealth or the District of Columbia to practice nursing, with a minimum of three (3) years SCI/D experience.
  • Superior oral, written, computer and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with patient treatment files (PTF), case management techniques, and clinical record interpretation.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary team organization and functions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to review clinical records and identify specific clinical issues and issues relative to the claims process for veterans? benefits.
  • Experience and or knowledge in the evaluation of SCI/D VHA programs.
  • Management and/or training experience desirable.
  • Travelrequired.
