The Risk Manager will partner with the Director of Enterprise Data Governance to advance and evolve data governance capabilities across the company. The Manager will also be the liaison for specific Business Lines and must be able to evaluate business challenges, their technical implications, and potential solutions. The Manager must be detail oriented, have demonstrated leadership, presentation and communication skills, and be able to comprehend business and IT processes and systems associated with data management. This role will assist in establishing and enforcing adopted data governance methodologies to ensure project and program prioritization, quality, predictability, and attainment of established objectives. This role will coordinate with other program and business leaders and their teams, making certain activities progress according to schedule. Success in this position requires understanding of data governance practices and data management principles, collaboration, understanding of business operations and objectives, strategic thinking, initiative, innovation, and an ability to drive change through influence. As a liaison, this role serves as the Business Line's advocate within Enterprise Data Governance (EDG), while being an EDG ambassador to the Business Lines. A successful liaison is embraced as a trusted partner by their Business Line.

Job Responsibilities

  • Organize and coordinate team efforts based upon the direction of the Director of Enterprise Data Governance
  • Document and strategize the future state Enterprise Data Governance roadmap
  • Partner with multiple business and IT units to provide an understanding of the data governance policies and standards
  • Engage directly with internal clients to understand their culture and business, translating their data management objectives into detailed delivery plans
  • Prepare for and conduct key meetings and presentations with management
  • Partner with the Business Lines and EDG team members to assist and/or facilitate in the completion of Enterprise Data Governance and/or LOB-specific data governance deliverables to support Ally's advancement of data management capabilities
  • Work effectively with individuals and groups at all levels across the company and influence organizations in aligning their data governance deliverables
  • Build and manage relationships with clients and collaborate across functions to manage expectations, improve relationships, and develop and operationalize critical data governance sustain activities
  • Drive sound process management improvement practices, change management processes and identify improvement opportunities and assist with the implementation of changes
  • As needed, prepare status reports and ensure management, clients and others are informed of project or program status and related issues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 7+ years of experience or equivalent
  • Background in diversified financial services company is desirable
  • Strong background and understanding in enterprise information management, including master data management (MDM), metadata, reference data and data quality practices
  • Experience in Project Management and Change Management
  • Strong knowledge in data governance, data system platforms, practices and data management policies
  • Ability to design, develop and document data related policies, standards, procedures, processes
  • Ability to facilitate large groups and work across multiple lines of business and global functions
  • Strong communication, presentation and training skills
  • Ability to interface with all levels of management and negotiate project priorities and outcomes
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with multiple business partners
  • Experience in building new business processes and re-inventing existing ones to eliminate redundancies and inefficiencies
  • Openness and desire to learn and implement new tools for data management
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Ability to work in a team and fast paced changing environment
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical clients and colleagues
  • Ability to identify problems/issues and implement solutions
