As RF systems engineer, you will have a strong background in driving the specification of wireless systems along with a track-record in the design and verification of RF hardware. You will be familiar with prominent wireless standards such as LTE, 802.11 and Bluetooth and be accustomed to meeting demanding performance requirements to ensure the success of a product. What you will be doing

You will design and develop wireless communications systems for a range of clients and will work closely with those clients to understand their needs, develop requirements and architect solutions that meet those requirements. You will work closely with other disciplines such as DSP, Digital Electronics and Software to define interfaces and functional partitioning between subsystems. You will work across the entire wireless landscape - from high volume consumer applications such as portable internet-based devices, through to professional high-performance systems such as the air-traffic-control radios used to govern the US airspace. The markets you will work in include telecommunications, healthcare, industrial, satellite, consumer and automotive. This breadth of applications and markets will provide you with variety and the opportunity to expand your horizons.

As a senior member of the team you will mentor more junior members to help them develop their skills and capabilities. You will also work closely with business developers to present Cambridge Consultants' capabilities to clients and identify how best we can help them meet their objectives.


The day job

Every day is different at Cambridge Consultants and this role is no different, some of the things you can expect to be doing include:

  • Taking a leading role in preparing the top-down specifications for wireless systems taking a wider view of product and application requirements and converting these into real solutions
  • Taking a hand-on role in the detailed RF system design, component selection, circuit level design and laboratory-based design verification
  • Contributing technical input to project bid teams through understanding the client's requirements and translating those into deliverables that meet their needs
  • Contributing to IP development to expand and promote group capabilities
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of our CAD & simulation systems to enhance our development capability
  • Collaborating with team members across multiple disciplines
  • Mentoring and developing junior team members to embed Cambridge Consultants' right-first time approach to product development
  • Assisting with recruitment to help grow the team

What you need for this position

You must have at least 6 years of industry experience in hands-on development of wireless communication systems.

We are looking for someone who is adaptable, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure. We will expect you to be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, but also have the initiative to work independently. You should have excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

You must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.

Your skill set must include:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in electronic engineering or related discipline
  • Extensive experience of RF system design and RF circuit design
  • Current experience of RF techniques and RF laboratory test equipment
  • Extensive experience of hardware development and hardware design validation
  • Good knowledge of the product development process through to manufacture
  • A proven record of getting designs right first time
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to interact effectively at all levels in client organisations
  • A strong desire to learn and investigate new technologies

Additional skills of interest include:

  • PhD or Master's degree in electronic engineering or related discipline
