NI’s Product R&D Team is seeking to hire an entry RF Hardware Design Engineer to work on RF NI Products. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with engineering teams to define, document, design, deploy and sustain NI products tailored to meet specific customer requirements for engineering solutions. The ideal candidate has measurement experience and knowledge regarding RF circuit design.
This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, perform validation and verification, generate specification documents, interface with manufacturing partners and internal personnel to design, deploy and sustain solutions worldwide.
The RF Hardware Design Engineer is a hands on role requiring both design and validation/verification work with collaboration with hardware, software, calibration, test and signal processing engineers.
Perform RF validation and verification – including measurements such as gain, power, EVM, IP3, etc as well as diagnostic testing to identify RF performance issues
Interface with Calibration, HW, SW, and test engineers working on product design.
Automating microwave measurements for product characterization
Lifecycle management of both product under development and shipping products
Owning and implementing individual technical project deliverables; including feature design under direction of RF technical leaders, collecting data to help drive technical decisions, and investigating field found issues
Traveling as needed (possibly up to 5%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in an Electrical Engineering Discipline with an emphasis in RF and Microwave Design Fundamentals
Understanding of electrical engineering, electronics and RF principles – knowledge of microwave modeling tools (Microwave Office, AXiEM, CST, ADS, HFSS)
Knowledge of schematic capture tool (Mentor Graphics, Cadence, Altium)
Masters’ degree in an Electrical Engineering Discipline with an emphasis in Microwave Design
Hands on use of test and measurement equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, DVM, TDR, power supplies, Oscilloscope, noise sources) in designing and testing of RF circuitry
Ability and willingness to write software as necessary to develop algorithms, validation techniques and test procedures.
Understanding of Simulation, Data Analysis and Presentation
Demonstrated understanding of the following concepts and principles:
Sources of measurement uncertainty error
Appropriate selection of instrumentation and equipment
Integration of hardware and software
Grounding and shielding principles
Statistical analysis of data (Cp, Cpk, GR&R)
RF System design and debug experience in a large-scale production or lab environment
Demonstrated ability to:
Effectively interact and communicate with peers
Work effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural group development environment
Problem-solve effectively - diagnose technical issues and propose reasonable solutions
Take initiative, be a self-starter, and work independently
