A position has become available in the Academic Specialist Track for a scientist (MS or PhD) to join a team undertaking in vivo preclinical studies in cancer research, within the NCI sponsored Preclinical Therapeutics Core Facility (PCT) at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). The PCT laboratory is a fee-for-use shared resource for UCSF investigators. The PCT team works closely with academic and industry clients to design and execute mouse-based studies. The PCT is a part of the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The candidate will have a strong scientific background. Specialists appointed at the Assistant or Associate rank must have a masters degree and Specialists appointed at the Full rank must have a PhD degree (or equivalent degree). He/she will be self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, leadership potential, exhibit attention to detail, and the ability to work well within a team. The candidate must have at least two years of prior rodent handling experience; good computer skills and familiarity with MS Office applications. Specific tasks will include in vitro cell culture, drug solution and compound formulation and preparation, animal handling for drug delivery through various routes, tumor implantation, tumor measurement, minor surgical methods, data analysis and report generation. The ideal candidate will also have familiarity with in vivo imaging platforms including optical, ultrasound and/or micro-CT imaging.
This new hire will report to the PCT Manager, and will assist Manager in meeting with clients, managing projects, generating reports, providing oversight to a variety of in vivo imaging devices, and performing a wide range of tasks.
? Communicate with PCT clients, document and archive project activities, prepare and send weekly study updates to clients
? Manage studies using online data base and project management system (StudyDirector)
? Work closely with PCT personnel and clients to assure studies are executed in compliance with study objectives and university protocol
? In vivo applications
o formulation of drugs and vehicle for in vivo delivery
o drug administration by intra-peritoneal, sub cutaneous, and oral gavage routes
o working knowledge of biosample collection, e.g. tissue and blood collection
o drug efficacy, PK, PD, and toxicity studies
? In vitro applications
o cell culture: propagation, harvest and preparation of cells for in vivo implantation
? In vivo molecular imaging:
o Provide oversight and training for one or more in vivo imaging devices, including ultrasound, micro-CT imaging and CT-guided irradiation.
