This scientific position within the Biology & Pharmacology group at Theravance Biopharma will focus on translational biology at the interface of late research and early clinical development with an emphasis on in vivo work. This important position presents an opportunity to design and execute the experimental biology and pharmacology strategy in support of our exciting internal programs, in which we focus on applying an organ-selective approach to discover transformative medicines.
Responsibilities will focus on disease efficacy proof of concept, biomarker development, clinical dose-projection, as well as differentiation and complementation with other standards of care and emerging therapies. This work requires a sophisticated understanding of disease biology, local routes of administration (e.g. inhalation in the lung), and the clinical development plan and target product profile of projects,
The successful candidate will have a cross-functional in vivo / in vitro skillset of high quality with a strong track record of past project successes. This candidate will work closely with a Biology & Pharmacology leader and have project core team responsibilities on either one or multiple projects. The candidate is expected to execute, lead, and quickly gain expertise independently as a trusted scientific contributor.
Duties and Responsibilities
PhD in relevant biological discipline (ideally with immunology and / or respiratory disease experience) with 5+ years pharmaceutical research experience. A good understanding of PK/PD relationships is expected.
Experience with cutting-edge technologies including single-cell RNA sequencing, digital spatial profiling and imaging, complex in vivo disease biology models, drug delivery systems (e.g. inhalation towers and delivery to apical surface of in vitro airway liquid interface cultures), organotypic primary culture or 3-D microphysiological systems validation, and sourcing and handling of patient-derived primary samples from collaborators and clinical studies, is preferred.
