The Powertrain Engineering Division at SwRI is seeking a talented and motivated Engineer to assist in Drivetrain R&D test and development including hybridized powertrains. Our work is contract research for a diverse set of clients around the world; including both commercial and government. The primary focus of this position is to support Drivetrain R&D tasks. A significant portion of this position entails be planning, setup, execution of transmission testing, and performing data processing and analysis. Other aspects of project work include preparing bids for promotional/proposal efforts and reporting findings to customers. Project management will be an element to the position. Lead and develop new and existing activities in the area of transmission and drivetrain testing and development.
Requires a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related engineering degree with 5-10 years of automotive industry experience. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. MS degree is preferred. Proven proficiency and understanding of vehicle driveline system operation and testing methods is required. Practical experience in testing, instrumentation, reverse engineering, and data analysis is required. Performance development and validation testing of automatic and hybrid transmissions and their subsystems or components. Experience in mechanical and/or electrical machine testing within the automotive industry is required. Experience with instrumentation measurement systems, transducers and their operation, and an understanding of vehicle driveline system operation is required. Basic knowledge of torque converters, pumps, clutches, electric motors, axles, and transmission controls is highly desirable. ETAS/INCA, Canalyzer, OBD-II, and other automotive communication protocol experience is beneficial. Technical creativity and self-motivation are required. Excellent oral and written communication are required. Must be committed to continuous professional development. Proficiency in the use of MS Office products is required. Software experience with LabView, MATLAB, and Simulink programming is required. Hardware experience with National Instruments is required. Must be able to manage multiple assignments concurrently with limited supervision. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
