HP Inc.’s Personal Systems Quality organization is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate to join our team as a Reliability Engineer. The Reliability Engineer will support reliability for notebook and desktop products through the product lifecycle including leading reliability programs during new product introduction and development, and working with cross-functional teams to ensure product reliability in the field.


The Reliability Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Act as subject matter expert in areas of reliability, including test design, reliability statistics, reliability theory and processes
  • Leads cross-functional teams and facilitate root cause investigations to resolve reliability issues
  • Work closely with development, supply chain, and reliability teams to develop and execute reliability test plans
  • Use statistics and reliability software for reliability forecasting and lifespan predictions of systems and components
  • Create design life, warranty, and out-of-warranty life forecasts
  • Work closely with reliability and failure analysis teams to comprehend product failure modes and develop reliability improvement plans   
  • Frequently present technical results at both the engineer and executive levels
  • Work closely with customers and field teams to understand usage environments to develop reliability tests and models

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor's degree in Engineering:  Reliability, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, or related science
  • CRE or equivalent certification, preferred
  • 3-10 years’ experience in reliability role(s), preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience developing test plans for reliability of components, materials, and systems.
  • Experience in design of experiments
  • Expert in reliability and statistical software tools such as JMP, Reliasoft (e.g., Weibull++, ALTA, RGA), and others
  • Experience determining reliability goals for products during new product introduction
  • Experience using degradation models to estimate failure distributions
  • Knowledge of accelerated testing models, theory and applications
  • Knowledge of product development process and supplier processes and how they impact product reliability
  • Knowledge of physics of failure for devices and systems related to notebook and desktop computers
  • Experience leading reliability activities during product delivery, including FMEA, HALT, and reliability growth
  • Ability to give clear and effective presentations to inform and influence peers and management
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and documentation skills
