The OpportunityThe individual will join a growing and dynamic Team and step into a multi-faceted role that offers the opportunity to significantly and positively impact the continued growth within BBVA Compass. The ideal candidate will develop into a key consultant role within the markets and will collaborate closely with Management and Senior Staff members to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans to market and sell our full-range of services to prospects and clients while overseeing the servicing of key client relationships.

The Role

Sales: The Relationship Manager, Emerging Markets (RMEM) will develop an individual business plan, consistent with the bank’s plan, to target companies within the target segment. This role will be responsible for executing the business plan by making calls, seeking referrals and developing influential relationships within the market.

Knowledge: The ideal candidate must maintain comprehensive knowledge of the bank’s products, services and credit standards, trends in commercial banking pricing and products. Additionally, they must exhibit effective sales and customer service practices and have a firm grasp on relevant legal issues and other necessary information.

The RMEM has primary relationship accountability for assigned clients and overall responsibility for servicing and maximizing the profitability of client relationships on behalf of BBVA Compass. It is expected that this role will collaborate with others to:

  • Lead new business development initiatives targeting prospective and existing clients
  • Build and maintain effective and influential relationships at senior levels within the client and prospect organizations
  • Develop and implement strategies to provide high quality, creative and integrated services to clients
  • Serve as the overall subject matter expert and business consultant for clients and prospects, using the wealth of services provided by BBVA Compass as well as leveraging the RMEM’s experience

The RMEM plays a proactive role in mentoring and developing staff and contributing to the overall intellectual and professional development of the market.

Other Responsibilities:Identifies prospect’s and customer’s banking needs and matching BBVA Compass products and services to provide banking solutions to businesses. Structures and proposes credits and services to prospects and customers. Negotiates, within broad guidelines, credit pricing, terms and structures. Facilitates resolution of the credit approval process. Manages and expands existing portfolio by overseeing credit renewals, resolving problems and cross-selling other products with the assistance of product specialists and junior officers.


Emerging Markets: This segment calls on clients with revenues of $10-$50 million in the geographic footprint. The complexity of needs for this client segment requires a candidate to have extensive knowledge of lower middle market credit policies and requirements as well as an established book of business in the market. Generally, this requires at least six to eight years (at the senior level) of experience in the commercial banking segment and formal credit training or its equivalent.


Bachelordegreerequired; Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.

Formal credit and/or commercial loan training preferred.

Additional Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiar with Salesforce (or other CRM software), commercial loan origination processes, loan documentation knowledge, and treasury/cash management products.


Level I – at least 3 years of related experience.

Level II – 4 – 6 years of related experience.
