PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As a Regulatory Insurance Accountant, you will support the reinsurance captives of accounting and reporting functions on both a GAAP and Statutory basis. You will coordinate with the team for successful completion of monthly and quarterly closes, related analysis, eliminations, review/preparation of the GAAP financial statements and STAT bluebooks and participation in unit projects to maintain and improve business continuity. This position works with reporting requirements and guidelines of applicable regulatory agencies to maintain records and prepare required financial reports.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

  • Review/prepare monthly/quarterly journal entries, reconciliations and monthly/quarterly financial reporting
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end regulatory reporting, financial statements and related information
  • Complete/review monthly/quarterly reconciliations
  • Research variances and complete/review monthly/quarterly analytics
  • Interaction and coordination with the lines of business, administrative areas and actuaries in carrying out assigned financial reporting responsibilities
  • Assist in the research and clearing of captive related monthly reinsurance uneliminated balances
  • Make recommendations for accounting treatment for reinsurance
  • Assist in implementing accounting changes to comply with regulatory accounting changes or reinsurance policy


DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/BA in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience
  • 5 or more yrs. experience in financial accounting and reporting
  • Completion of, or working towards CPA, MBA or CMA desired
  • Knowledge of STAT and GAAP accounting practices/procedures
  • Highly proficient in Excel
  • Insurance industry, HFM, OBIEE, COGNOS, and PeopleSoft experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently, ability to handle multiple tasks and ability to meet deadlines
