    Role Purpose:

    The Regional Vice President of Nursing is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of a culture of patient safety and the enhancement of quality nursing care within SSM Health Care – Wisconsin in accordance with the philosophy and mission of SSM Health Care. The Regional Vice President of Nursing will lead the development and implementation of effective nursing practice standards and guidelines to assure the safe provision of quality patient care.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Mission, Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct

    a. Demonstrates and imparts the mission, philosophy, values and vision of SSM Health Care in daily activities and into operational functions, processes and environment.

    b. Works effectively as a team member in a dynamic executive environment where collegiality, subsidiaryity and sharing responsibility is required and highly valued within a matrix organization. Promotes teamwork within and across the network by maintaining positive and productive intra-entity and intradepartmental relationships and utilizing effective problem solving skills.

    c. Adheres to the SSM Health Care Standards of Ethical Conduct, displaying, as applicable, ethical behavior in the areas of business ethics, legal compliance, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, vendor relationships and the reporting of questionable activities.

    2. Customer Relations

    a. Develops strategies to assure premier patient satisfaction.

    3. Strategic Planning

    a. Develops and implements strategic business plans within nursing.

    b. Participates in the development and implementation of the Strategic, Financial and Human Resource Planning process for the network.

    c. Assumes fiscal responsibility through budgetary planning and implementation for assigned area/s.

    4. Performance Improvement

    a. Incorporates CQI principles into daily activities focusing on process improvements, patient safety and premier patient satisfaction.

    b. Establishes processes to assure safe and quality patient care is provided on a daily basis.

    c. Establishes and implements key quality metrics as a means to evaluate the quality of patient care.

    d. Participates in ongoing continuous quality improvement education and training.

    e. Leads development of nursing practice standards to facilitate implementation and effective utilization of the electronic health record.

    5. Human Resources

    a. Creates a culture of employee engagement through commitment and accountability as a means to continuously improve patient safety and a performance oriented culture.

    b. Responsible for the oversight of effective human resource management for the assigned areas.

    c. Ensures human resource policies are enforced and administered consistently without favoritism or discriminatory influence.

    d. Utilizes timely and effective means of informing and updating staff on organizational, system-wide and industry issues. Encourages and provides opportunity for staff input and feedback regarding improvement opportunities.

    e. Facilitates an environment that promotes team building and collaboration. Motivates, encourages and empowers staff to achieve personal, team and organizational goals.

    f. Organizes nursing through appropriate structure and delegation of functions.

    g. Mentors executives and management in career growth and actively cooperates in succession planning.

    6. Knowledge and Application of Policies and Regulatory/Accreditation Requirements

    a. Develops, implements and evaluates nursing policies, procedures, processes and standards of practice to assure the provision of safe and quality patient care.

    b. Maintains knowledge and achieves compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements, licensure, accreditation requirements, record procedures and internal controls.

    7. Information Management

    a. Develops and assures compliance of confidentiality policies and procedures.

    b. Utilizes information to support timely and effective decision-making processes.

    8. Position Specific Accountabilities

    a. Collaborates and partners with physicians, hospital executives and network executives to implement effective nursing processes.

    b. Implements and assures adherence to policy decisions of SSM Health Care.

    c. Effectively communicates at all levels within the organization including but not limited to employees, physicians, Franciscan Sisters of Mary, advisory board members, Regional President/System Vice President.

    d. Develops and enhances relationships with community, other publics, organizations and groups that expand the effectiveness of the mission.

    e. Participates in developing system policies, procedures and directives as requested and communicates appropriately to ensure compliance is achieved.

    f. Reviews pending legislation on local, state and national levels for impact on health care; and when appropriate, enlists support from various publics to influence effective legislation.

    g. Effectively collaborates with networksupport functions of finance, planning, quality and human resources to achieve successful outcomes for the hospital, service line, network and system.


    Qualifications

    Required:

    1. Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (DNP) required with a minimum of five years of experience as an accomplished senior healthcare executive within a large healthcare institution.
