Minimum qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience with people management in EHS.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in Federal, State, and Local EHS regulations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Professional EHS Certifications (e.g., Content Security Policy, Certified Hazardous Materials Management, Resource Efficiency Management, etc.).
  • Experience communicating with federal, state, and local authorities regarding EHS issues.
  • Experience leading large cross-functional teams to align and deliver technical projects.
  • Knowledge of Facilities Management, engineering, and construction.
  • Excellent collaboration, project management, analytical, data quality troubleshooting, and problem-solving and communication skills.

About the job

Google Data Centers (GDC) makes up a large computing infrastructure. As GDC plans for growth, it has built a best in class environmental, health, and safety (EHS) program to scale compliance and safety standards for construction, commissioning, deployment, and operations of data centers. As a member of Data Center Environmental, Health, and Safety Management (DCEHS) team, you will be responsible for all Western U.S. data center operational EHS legal compliance, program implementation, conformance, and EHS resource management.

In this role, you will help ensure all EHS challenges are identified and addressed by working collaboratively withcross-functional teams of Google Data Centers (GDC) groups and contractors. Additionally, you will also provide support and project management oversight to new and critical EHS initiatives to continue to create and iterate our EHS program. You will also manage a team of EHS Specialists, Program Managers, and Associate Regional Manager(s) to ensure a consistent and uniform approach to EHS program implementation across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Data Center EHS team provides EHS and Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System (EHSMS) with technical support and act as a positive resource to global/regional data center operations.
  • Monitor, advise, and assist stakeholders on EHS risk management and drive the teams towards a safe and sustainable culture.
  • Identify and assist management with obtaining all applicable EHS permits and licenses in order to ensure on-time and successful start-up and operation of data centers at our regional locations.
  • Be responsible for regional EHS budgeting, recruiting, compensation, and performance plans.
  • Provide back-up site level EHS support for existing fleet and leadership within the region and at a global level for all EHS programs and initiatives.
