Job Description


Consistent with the Mission and Core Values of the CHRISTUS Health (CH) the Regional Medical Director of Clinical Informatics is responsible for improving the usability and capability of clinical technology for CHRISTUS Health and CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic. The System Medical Director works with system and regional leadership to integrate technology and clinical process for the purpose of improving and developing health outcomes. This Regional Leader will be primarily responsible for establishing and managing physician governance of enterprise clinical content, EMR usability, efficiency and optimization, and clinical workflow improvements through technology integration. The medical director will collaborate with clinical informatics, information management, medical group operations, and clinical operations stakeholders across CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic and Northeast Texas to design and improve evidence based clinical content.


  • Enlists support for strategically relevant clinical programs that need to be designed or improved with special focus on developing effective clinical informatics.
  • Works with clinical and operational leaders the respond to evolving clinical needs in a systematic fashion.
  • Educate CHRISTUS leaders on the tremendous role that effective clinical informatics plays in successful clinical operations initiatives.
  • Collaborates with key technology leaders including System Director of Clinical Informatics, System Medical Director of Clinical Informatics, Regional CIO and System Director of Applications.
  • Collaborate with Health Outcomes Department to identify clinical quality outcomes associated with existing or new clinical informatics programs that are being improved or developed.
  • Provide medical direction and expertise regarding the System's implementation of the electronic health record (EMR) system(s).
  • Implement effective clinical decision-making systems and participate in the development of clinical processes that support effective, efficient, safe, timely, and equitable patient- centered care.
  • Partner with enterprise analytics stakeholders to develop and deliver reports that illuminate the quality and efficacy of patient care, and that support the Health System's population health management efforts. Will be a member of the enterprise analytics data governance team.
  • Provide strategic vision and direction for informatics initiatives in all international ventures across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate with all clinical leaders in the various geographies and international venues of care
  • Develop and implement plans to standardize order set and clinical decision support processes and procedures among international hospitals through evidence-based standards of care.
  • Evaluate clinical processes to determine best practice across the system to include transfer of knowledge and best practices regardless of origin.
  • Develop effective working relationships with all clinical leaders, associates, senior administrative leaders and community partners as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional affiliations that enhance professional growth and pursue continuous self-development.
  • Actively contributes to the region-level interdisciplinary groups, such as Performance Improvement, and other councils/work groups as needed over time.
  • Represents the organization at professional conferences and participates on internal and external committees as required.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned from time to time by the region.

Job Requirements


A. Education

  • MD
  • Board Certified in Clinical Informatics (preferred) 


  • Minimum of five years of progressive clinical informatics experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in implementing and optimizing EMR technology required.
  • Experience with Epic as a clinical user and informaticist required. 

C. Skills

  • Demonstrated ability for clinical workflow analysis, EMR design, and EMR implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability for implementing enhanced clinician experience and clinician proficiency with the EMR.
  • Experiencesupporting and implementing population health initiatives from a technology and clinical workflow perspective.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy required to deal effectively with a wide variety of internal and external publics in the United States and internationally
  • Knowledge of medical and other clinical professional standards of care and scope of practice in hospitals and ambulatory clinics.
  • Demonstrated abilities required to develop policies/procedures, prepare and monitor budgets, and effectively lead/manage associates through an influential model
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities required to provide executive leadership in addressing challenges/opportunities and to gain acceptance of others in difficult situations.
  • Knowledge of requirements of external quality and safety organizations/agencies and accreditation standards across the continuum of care both in the United States and international
  • Demonstrated strategic and analytical ability necessary to formulate long-range plans and evaluate data required
  • Clinical Practice Requirement: 20 percent of work time will be dedicated to clinical practice in the relevant specialty of the associate.

D. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • State of Texas Medical License -- Required
  • Board Certification in an ABMS Specialty - Required
  • Board Certified in Clinical Informatics - Preferred
