The Project Manager 2 initiates and leads key business projects relating to business operations enhancement and other duties as directed by manager. The PM collaborates with senior management across the company to define projects from the ground up including opportunity analysis (TCO, ROI, etc), team formation, resourcing, initial project plan development, charter development and more. The PM effectively leads the project through approval and manages of the execution through successful completion while maintaining effective team and stakeholder relationships. The PM utilizes tools and methods such as standard PMI methodologies, MS Project Server and others.
Opportunity Analysis: Works with appropriate subject matter experts to define, scope and dimension opportunities they or the business identify. Methods such as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and return on investment (ROI) are used to estimate the expected financial impact of the opportunity. Works with appropriate Finance personnel for review and sign-off on financial analysis.
Proposal Development: Develops project proposals including scope, budget, financial analysis, business requirements, resource plan, and other key relevant facts and insights and presents to senior management and project sponsors for consideration and approval.
Project Formation: Works with project sponsors and stakeholders to define and form the project team and resource plan. Considers departmental representation, skill set requirements and subject matter expertise in resourcing the project. Leads development of the project plan based on the project charter and its requirements, timeline and other key factors. Leads project through initial team kick-off and transition into execution management.
Execution Management: Defines and utilizes effective execution management methods and routines to ensure the project stays on course. Utilizes project change control methods to ensure changes to scope, schedule and budget are effectively managed, balanced and communicated. Utilizes effective project plan change control methods in regards to the project plan itself to understand interdependency impacts of all changes on other areas of project (or other projects). Works across appropriate areas of organization to facilitate resolution to risks, issues or dependency conflicts.
Close-Out: Conducts lessons learned review of project to capture team and stakeholder feedback. Utilizes lessons to enhance methodologies and approaches for future projects. Conducts post-implementation impact analysis to understand actual financial and other impacts vs. those that were estimated in the charter. Gets sign-off on close-out from sponsors.
5+ years of Project Leadership / Management experience
Experience leading business projects in a Transportation company preferred
2+ years PMO Operations experiencepreferred
Project Management certification highly preferred.
