Job Responsibilities & Requirements

This is a critical position on Barings' growing U.S. Real Estate Market Research & Strategy team, responsible for guiding the strategic focus of the firm's $35+ billion U.S. real estate investment portfolio which includes equity, debt, and securities investments on all property types across 60+ major markets nationally.

This position can be located in the Firm's Boston, New York, Chicago, or Hartford offices.

Typical Responsibilities

•Lead projects in support of the Barings’ real estate investment strategies, focusing on forward-views of underlying economic, property sector and market trends.
•Initiate Research in anticipation of corporate and regional investment office needs for fundamental economics, property sectors and markets.
•Support business development initiatives with client presentations and public speaking at key industry events.
•Develop and assist with econometric modeling capacity to support analytics.
•Identify and research underlying trends impacting the real estate investment environment.
•Produce real estate thought pieces for distribution internally and externally.
•Effectively represent the Research’s position on various strategic and tactical views. 
•Present research analysis and strategies to clients.
•Provide guidance and mentoring to staff on assigned work.

Knowledge Requirements

•7+ years’ experience in real estate research with a focus on regional economics and real estate fundamentals.
•Master's degree in economics or related field; CFA a plus.
•Analytical report writing and solid editorial skills.
•Familiarity with econometric methodologies and statistical analysis.
•Exposure to the commercial real estate industry with an understanding of common industry terms and practices.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access. Additional expertise in database management a plus.
•Experience with commercial real estate research resources and methodologies.
•Apartment or hotel sector market analysis a plus.
•Experience preparing and delivering client presentations.
•Demonstrated experience working with industry groups and clients.
•Some supervisory experience.
•May require travel.
•Authorized to work in the US with or without sponsorship.
