In collaboration with the Director and Clinical Supervisor, Respiratory Care Services, plans, designs, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive predischarge respiratory care program. Interacts with Respiratory Care, Medical, Nursing, and Case Management staff regarding predischarge patient assessment and discharge teaching for all modes of respiratory care.

Required: Graduate from an AssociateDegree Respiratory Therapy training program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions (CAAHEP) in collaboration with the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
Required: RCP, RRT, Certified Asthma Educator from the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB); if eligible for credential, then must obtain credential within one (1) year of hire; American Heart Association BLS and ACLS.
Preferred: Smoking Cessation certification.
Required: A minimum of five (5) years of acute care hospital experience; a minimum of three (3) years experience providing respiratory care services per established protocol.
Preferred: Experience/formal training in respiratory care reimbursement.Minimum of one (1) year in a lead position in an acute care hospital.
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
Promotes and provides a safe and effective Respiratory Care to patients.
Performs patient assessment and develops an appropriate plan of care according to hospital policy and protocols.
Demonstrates the care and operation of respiratory therapy equipment according to technical specifications and application of equipment.
Performs routine respiratory care procedures as appropriate for clinical patient care areas according to hospital policy or protocols.
Performs respiratory care procedures as appropriate for critical care areas according to hospital policy or protocols.
Performs charting and documentation that is consistently complete, accurate, legible and informative.
Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant others concerning respiratory therapy.
Responds to emergency situations and provides appropriate and timely treatments.
Provides specialized care (e.g. bronchoscopy, trans-tracheal oxygenation).
Self-sufficient in seeking resource; demonstrates significant problem solving skills with respiratory modalities in the clinical setting.

In collaboration with the Manager, Respiratory Care Services, assures compliance with departmental, facility, local, state, federal, and accreditation standards, rules, and regulations.
Actively participates in paper and onsite inspections.

Performs diagnostic testing to determine patients’ needs for respiratory care modalities postdischarge.
Serves as the Asthma Educator with a disease management focus.
In collaboration with the Manager, Respiratory Care Services, assess program efficiency and effectiveness, and implements appropriate changes in program operations.
Collaborates with vendors to assure that patients’ postdischarge medical equipment/supply needs are met.
Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assessment activities and interdisciplinary teams as appropriate.
Able to prioritize accordingly and maintains a high level of organization.
Completes tasks in allotted time at the end of each shift.
