Most opportunities will be global in nature and will involve collaboration with FCA colleagues in Italy, South America and Asia. FCA is currently seeking an experienced Steel Senior Buyer to manage sourcing of direct steel with responsibility for or directly engaging with steel mills and service centers in price/contract negotiations.


The Senior Buyer will be responsible for managing all commercial terms and the developing sourcing strategies for both domestic and global projects. Functional responsibilities include identifying potential sources, managing quotations, negotiating and awarding of long-term contracts, managing all aspects of the supplier relationship including contract maintenance, achieving annual cost savings targets, and developing supplier/commodity strategies.


The core responsibilities of a Senior Buyer are the development, ownership, and execution of full lifecycle commodity strategies which include but are not limited to:


  • Leading all aspects of the commercial relationship with the supply base and internal customers including sourcing process/budget management, benchmarking, supplier relations, Purchase Order issuance/maintenance, supply/delivery, cost savings, economic claim negotiations, etc.
  • Leading regional and global supplier development and cross-functional communications with suppliers using a "One Voice" approach
  • Leading a cross-functional team including partners from Marketing, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Supplier Quality and Finance
  • Frequent professional communication with senior leadership

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, or closely related field from an ABET accredited university
  • 7 years of purchasing or closely related relevant experience.
  • Direct steel purchasing experience with responsibility for or directly engaging with steel mills and service centers in price/contract negotiations
  • Strong spreadsheet skills,
  • Strong communication skills and are highly customer focused
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Strong fluency with G Suite / MS Office Suite (strong spreadsheet skills)



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree
  • Global commodity experience: participating in global sourcing activities and working in global teams
