WSP is currently initiating a search for a Rail Vehicle Electrical or Electronic Engineer for our Atlanta, Georgia; Boston, Massachusetts; or Chicago, Illinois office. This position reports to the Manager Rail Vehicles - East, within WSP's Transit & Rail Technical Excellence Center. The selected individual will be responsible for providing Full Time engineering and technical expertise for FFD's rail vehicle practice. The selected candidate will be supporting WSP's clients engaged in the procurement, maintenance and operation of rail fleets employing all modes of rail technologies. Experience in rail vehicles and associated specifications, standards, and recommended practices would be a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assessment of electrical systems located on a rail vehicle and associated maintenance needs for those systems.
  • Review design submittals and prepare detailed descriptions of review findings. Participate in formal design review meetings and technical working sessions
  • Preparation of progress reports and Technical Specification documents of electrical and electronic systems
  • Conduct first-article-inspections and witness electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including; shock and vibration, environmental, electrical, and functional testing
  • Technical responsibility for the preparation of technical reports in accordance with client's requests
  • Investigation of rolling stock and related systems issues as requested by the client
  • Active participation in new business efforts including assisting with new pursuits
  • Perform billable work and other tasks as assigned and best fits training and ability

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 10 years' experience in a rail and transit related field
  • Knowledge of and experience with the electrical and/or electronic systems associated with rail vehicles including: ATC, auxiliary power, communications, propulsion, mechanical systems controls, software, trainline circuits and high and low voltage protection circuits. Specific significant expertise in one of these systems is a plus.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities in a logical and orderly manner
  • Knowledge of and experience with rail vehicle technologies
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • The ability to work in a disciplined manner with little supervision

  • Advanced degree(s) preferred
