ABB is seeking an experienced R&D Test Engineer which comprises of the investigation, evaluation and application broad technical engineering knowledge to high voltagecircuit breaker testing. Under limited direction, this position is responsible for designing and conducting all aspects of mechanical and electrical testing, from development to external certification. This position will join the High Voltage Circuit Breaker R&D team and support implementation of new designs and components as well as other product care and cost reduction initiatives required by the organization.
Typical duties/responsibilities may include but are not limited to, the following
•Ensuring safety of personnel in the laboratory and external facilities.
•Defines the testing plan and scheduling of electrical and mechanical tests as required by lab supervisor and project leaders.
•Designs and conducts electrical and mechanical testing of high voltage apparatus and associated devices in internal and external laboratories.
•Organizes and controls the testing activities in terms of quality, timeliness and costs, in order to get either the required certification (ANSI, IEC, etc.) or the trial specifications and analysis requested by the Project Leader
•Designs and supports test programs with external laboratories, controlling progress, quality, and costs and managing reporting of activities.
•Conducts the test analysis both for test documentation and, when needed, problem analysis.
•Produces sound test reports that thoroughly reflects each test performed.
•Familiarize with international electromechanical apparatus and testing standards, specifically those related to high voltage circuit breakers (i.e. IEEE C37.04, IEC 62271-100, etc.)
• 4 year accredited degree
•2 years of electrical or mechanical testing experience .. OR.. 1 year of direct engineering experience with HV Power Utility equipment.
•Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
•Must be able to read and interpret International standards, customer specifications, industry standards and ABB design standards as applicable to dead tank circuit breakers.
•Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Project. Desired proficiency using SAP.
•Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in the English language.
•Must be able to multi-task small projects and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
•Must be able to systematically maintain engineering records and archives.
•Must be able to travel internationally.
•Candidates with work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
