A lab system engineer who has managed and successfully supported complex R&D lab infrastructures built primarily with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V), Windows, various UNIX variants (AIX/Solaris/Linux/HP-UX), and IoT devices.


The ideal candidate for this position will be a person who had spent 4 to 6 years in a Windows and UNIX engineering environment, integrated IT infrastructure components to build complex Information systems, has deep insight to Windows, UNIX variants and deep insight to IoT devices setup.

Responsibilities:

This position's primary focus, at this time, will be to support Qualys R&D labs located at Foster City data center and DEV & QA infrastructure support and on building, enhancing, maintaining highly available state of the art integrated rapid provisioning solutions for Windows and Linux platforms and web-based applications, which are key components of the current R&D infrastructure environment.


The person in this role will be troubleshooting and fixing any system related issues in R&D environment and should have deep experience in Windows, and UNIX systems and virtualization (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, OracleVM, PowerVM) and web technologies.


The responsibility will include understanding the complex organizational workflow, logical processes, hardware, and operating system environment, interfaces between various information systems, internal and external process checks and controls, and outputs quickly. The person will work closely with other team members for achieving the group's goals.

Skills

The candidate should be knowledgeable in all aspects of designing, constructing, supporting complex infrastructure and information architectures. Expert level experience in multiple areas of computing technologies is required. This is a DEV & QA infrastructure support position requiring high-level problem-solving and technical experience. In-depth experience, understanding of infrastructure optimization and the ability to present alternatives once the analysis is completed is required.


The candidate should possess an expert level technical knowledge of most operating systems; primarily, Windows, UNIXs Variants and VMware, in-depth understanding of various web applications and understanding various debugging utilities. Familiarity and expertise in advanced system administration tools.


The candidate should be action-oriented, innovative, creative problem solver, quick learner, excellent communicator with an ability to turn a technical explanation into simple English for the benefit of non-technical people, agile and team player with a high degree of general business and project management understanding.


Requirements:

  • 4 to 6 years' experience in Windows and UNIX networking along with KVM, LPAR, LDOMS, and VMWARE virtualization technologies.
  • Solid experience in system & network administration of RHEL Linux, Solaris & AIX.
  • Solid working experience in Storage Area Networking (HDS VSP, Cisco MDS)
  • Setup IoT devices for DEV/QA engineering use
  • In depth knowledge of System/OS level TCP/IP Networking is a must
  • Patch management experience on Windows and Linux systems
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work inside a data center environment
  • Must be able to install and configure various services such as IIS, LAMP, Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL, Cisco IOS, Kerberos…etc.
  • Must be able to rack mount servers and connect required cabling
  • Must be able to work extended hours inside a data center environment
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as oral and written skills.
