The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the quality functions for the Finished Products Department at the Springfield, Oregon paper mill. This position will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our quality testing processes and actively respond to customer needs. In addition the candidate will assist with the safe and efficient operation of the paper machine, which will include supporting project work and help coordinate lockouts and paper machine shutdown activities. The successful candidate must be a strong safety advocate and work with the team in achieving safety excellence. This position will have on call responsibilities on a rotating basis for operations. This position will report directly to the Finished Products Business Unit Manager.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Promote and support a safe and engaging culture
  • Provide leadership to troubleshoot paper process and quality issues
  • Work with operations and chemical vendors to produce quality sheet, including coordination and management of chemical trials and transitions
  • Interface with customers and customer support
  • Work with Customer Technical Services to investigate and manage quality complaints
  • Lead by example and ensure acceptable work practices are followed
  • Manage the Paper Technician and Paper Lab to ensure compliance with paper testing and reporting requirements
  • Drive implementation of Containerboard Quality Management Systems
  • Support and assist in company initiatives such as 5S and other Global Manufacturing Systems activities
  • Support paper machine down days with activities, such as confined space and hot work coordination

Key Knowledge, Experience and Required Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years paper manufacturing experience
  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of paper making process
  • Strong commitment to safety in all aspects of business operations
  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills and ability to motivate others
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project)
