Primary Purpose

The purpose of this position is to oversee and lead the quality management processes within the agency. Provide technical print support, enforce flawless execution, high quality standards and consistency of packaging print ready artwork file development and release. The Sr. Quality Manager is an integral member of the team, building partnerships and collaboration with key stakeholders across agency, client and vendor teams. You will help to support senior management in the development and execution of strategic and tactical quality related objectives working exclusively on a dedicated client’s business from our near site agency office.

General Overview

The Sr. Quality Manager will work closely with the Design Account Director, Design Director, Lead Designers and Production Artist in developing print production best practices that ensure artwork file development and  release meet printer specifications. Proactively liason with the team and vendors to address any artwork file or print quality concerns. Collaborate with the team to ensure artwork files are accurately developed to best achieve print quality consistency across various vendors and manufacturing countries. Add value by quickly identifying effective print production quality solutions and/or identifying, trouble shooting and heading off potential problems in advance. Earn both the client and agency teams respect as their knowledgable, key advisor and problem solver.



·       Become the teams expert on brand colors and style guidelines to effectively advise on print specifications needed to best achieve desired reproduction print quality and consistency based on a range of substrates and manufacturer capabilities

·       Liason with external service provider GMI to understand and ensure defined client color standards and quality expectations are adhered to, consistently met and enforced with vendors

·       Partner with external vendors and printers to understand print specification needs

·       Lead and support vendor pre-production meetings with the Project Managers, Designers, Production Artists and clients, set and enforce print quality expectations with vendors

·       Review/QC audit of final printed material on a monthly basis, document and address with the vendors any quality concerns where less than desirable results were identified and report to the client any quality concerns and solutions to address in a concise and timely manner

·       Create, revise and own quality documentation, including procedures, work instructions and guidelines to effectively measure, report progress and success of Quality improvements

·       Maintain awareness of brand standards, regulatory requirements/updates and client workflow

·       Investigate NCR’s and provide feedback to the Design Account Director

·       Participates in and supports agency business objectives appropriate to role (quality objectives, company policies)

·       Alert Account Director to quality issues and/or proposed solutions to effectively address or mitigate problems and propose thoughtout, effective and cost efficient solutions to the client

·       Actively identify and suggest quality improvement opportunities and evolve SOPs



·       Ensure all Production Artists are following Quality protocols

·       Review and confirm file setup accuracy for effective hand-off to manufacturer (deline sizes, conversion to CMYK, Spot color, special finishes, layers setup, image links and print specs are clearly defined)

·       Review artwork files to confirm:

-        regulatory and printer requirements (type size to regulatory and minimum type. Line thickness accordingly, to specs supplied, NFT calculations, warnings, holdbacks)

-        color rotations and number of colors are correct as per work order

-        image bleeds, roll overs and panel cross match are accurate

-        overprints, knockouts

-        UPC code reads

-        consistency of brand Style Guide and other products across the categoryportfolio are met

-        that commons have been identified and executed correctly

·       Enforce folder structure consistency and ensure all required files associated with a job are placed in the correct folders within the required folder structure

·       Maintain server organization and job folder structure, and implement archiving best practices

·       Review color match proofs being released to vendors and review and approve vendor prepress pdf files to ensure proper separation and contract color proofs to ensure reproduction of desired design intent and color accuracy to provided color match proof

·       Provide feedback as required for corrections or clarification to the vendors and provide oversight to ensure quality concerns are effectively addressed



·       Responsible for providing oversight of the artwork file development quality and training Production Artists and Designers as needed on best practices for releasing print ready artwork files

·       Proactively collaborate with manufacturers to request print tests in advance, make necessary adjustments to artwork files to achieve desired outcome and attend press checks, as needed based on print complexity

·       Maintain database for the preventive maintenance of machinery and equipment

Education & Experience Requirements


·        Bachelordegree in related field

·        Minimum 7 years of relevant Print Production and Quality Assurance experience in a design agency environment

·        Knowledge of Packaging Design requirements, Production assembly, Production art rollouts and CFIA and FDA regulations

·        Strong knowledge of prepress processes

·        Experience with Flexo, Litho and Gravure printing processes as it applies to production art

·        Experience printing with and on various substrates, inks and finishes

·        Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence technical print production, quality and vendor decisions, credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization across both agency and client teams

·        Ability to provide industry insights to guide and influence flawless execution and deliver the best reproduction print quality

·        Experience in delivering client-focused solutions based on Quality and Technical needs

·        Superior organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time, while paying strict attention to the details and adhering to brand guidelines

·        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

·        Open to a flexible work schedule

·        Proficient using Mac OS, Microsoft Products, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop
