The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for executing manual and automated testing plans in development projects and regression testing related to a trading and rebalancing platform for Orion Advisor Services, LLC. In this capacity, the Quality Assurance Specialist will act as an essential link in the project development life cycle and work closely with the Chief Solutions Officer on implementing rigorous regression testing plans on a daily basis to ensure that business requirements are tested and verified as identified by the trading team.          


What does this role do?

Quality Assurance

  • Create and Update automated test scripts to ensure accuracy
  • Create or maintain databases of known test defects
  • Conduct technology compatibility tests with programs, hardware, operating systems, or network environments
  • Create comprehensive test plans with well defined, reusable test cases from business requirements and functional specifications documents to support the successful implementation and enhancements of the OMS
  • Execute software testing to include functional testing, system testing, regression testing, and performance testing
  • Document software defects in an issues tracking system and proactively communicate issues with developers and leadership
  • Manage scheduling to ensure efficient and effective product testing; identifies and reports risks to project schedule and product quality and proposes new methods to control and/or mitigate risks


  • Evaluate or recommend software for testing or bug tracking
  • Develop or specify standards, methods, or procedures to determine product quality or release readiness
  • Develop testing programs that address areas such as database impacts, technology scenarios, regression testing, negative testing, error or bug retests, or usability
  • Participate in business requirements and functional specifications reviews early in the software development lifecycle process

Cross Team Coordination

  • Work with Subject Matter Expert Teams to Design test plans, scenarios, scripts, or procedures
  • Generate effective status and progress reports to Chief Solutions Officer

Project Management

  • Lead development projects and coordinate testing plans for large development initiatives
  • Provide testing leadership for the projects in which they are assigned


Knowledge and skills:

  • Experience with simple SQL queries and data tables
  • Knowledge of automated testing tools and their usage
  • Ability to translate from business requirements to technical testing solutions
  • Experience with full cycle testing including functional testing, system testing, integration testing, performance and stress testing
  • Experience with Test Architect or Selenium preferred 

Education and Experience needed:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in technology testing required
  • Experience with investment software testing preferred
  • Experience working within Financial Services industry preferred
  • Orion Series 65 certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment
