REPORTS TO: General Manager
SUMMARY: Plans, coordinates, and directs Quality Assurance and Product Service programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product.
Formulates and maintains quality assurance objectives and coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with the Manager of Manufacturing to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
Works with Materials/Purchasing to assure acceptable supplier quality and delivery.
Directs workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
Works with Product Service, Staff Managers and Sales/Marketing to assess customer satisfaction and address/resolve issues.
Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to product quality and reliability.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages Service Department, Quality Engineers and Technicians. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: (Technical) Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or, two to four years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years experience preferably in an inspection/quality environment. Needs two or more years demonstrable Lean/Kaizen/Six Sigma experience. Needs experience in progressive TQM tools and systems including, but not limited to, Control Plans, Supplier Reliability, Quality Containment, Root Cause Analysis, and Design of Experiments.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: American Society for Quality Certification, not required but would be a plus.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Familiarity with production processes, standard mechanical, metallurgical and electrical test methods, SPC, ISO-9001-2000 requirements. Good people management and motivational skills. Must possess good professional project management and time management skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit or stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
