Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and continuously improving the product safety and quality systems that assure defect free and food safe products.  Responsible for ensuring compliance within Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Food Safety for the Rochester, NY facility.  Oversee all testing laboratories and ensure compliance with regulatory, North American Breweries, customer and third-party audit requirements.  This role is responsible for implementing and improving quality programs and procedures and will watch over the day-to-day facility operations to ensure adherence to all quality and regulatory standards.



    • Accurate Testing, Inspection & Data Collection
      • Ensures effective testing and sampling programs are completed to safeguard raw materials (as applicable), in process, rework, and finished goods while supporting efficiency improvements and waste reductions without compromising quality.
      • Supervises validation methods of new products during the PEP process; records and provides data analysis as needed.
      • Supervises the accurate collection and dissemination of product specifications.
      • Supervises the laboratories chemical and physical inspection of incoming and outgoing goods.
      • Ensure all methods for testing, storage, and data collection of all products, chemicals, and applicable TTB and FDA regulations are met and or exceeded.
    • Manage and lead plant GMP, GFSI, HACCP, HARPC, food defense, food safety and associated pre-requisite programs.
      • Includes creation, verification and validation as required.
    • Participate in the establishment of quality specifications and standards for raw materials, in process, and finished goods for all products produced in your manufacturing and storage facility or facilities.
    • Participate in the ongoing development, implementation and improvement of the Quality Management System(s).
    • Execute plant policies and procedures while being a driver for continuous improvement to streamline and improve efficiencies.
    • Ensures effective testing and sampling programs are completed to safeguard raw materials, in process, salvage/rework and finished goods while supporting efficiency improvements and waste reductions without quality compromise.
    • Ensure internal food safety/GMP audits are completed and accurate to current regulation/standards.


    • Equipment
      • Oversee and lead the maintenance of all laboratory equipment including calibration while establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
      • Oversees the laboratory supply inventories to ensure proper stock; anticipate needed supplies; place and expedite orders for supplies; verifying receipt and ensure budgetary restrictions are met.
      • Implements new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives, validating methods and training employees.
    • Housekeeping
      • Enforce and adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP’s) throughout all laboratories.
    • Safety
      • Serves as liaison between the laboratories and EH&S in helping maintain safety and regulatory information, including Material Safety Data Sheets.
      • Provides guidance on laboratory safety compliance and technical subjects.


    • Facilitate and ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, and 3rd party audits.
    • Ensure products meet all specifications and requirements.
    • Receive, lead, evaluate, and provide response/documentation to customer quality issues.  This entails working with appropriate departments on conducting root cause, corrective actions, and working with sales, legal and public relation teams on formal response if needed.
    • Point of contact for applicable customers as it relates to quality.
    • This includes but is not limited to, New Product Process/Commercialization, Specification maintenance, existing product issues and upgrades, business reviews…etc.


    • Delegate’s authority and accountability to staff for appropriate responsibilities and decisions that are consistent with the scope of their capabilities, rules and regulations of regulatory authorities (where applicable), training, and policies of the organization.
    • Ensures work is scheduled effectively; and checkpoints and controls are set for monitoring progress.
    • Manages employee performance by clearly defining job responsibilities and standards of performance; tracking progress against goals; providing clear, thorough, timely feedback; and addressing performance problem issues promptly.
    • Ensure self and staff understand the organizations’ vision, values, goals and strategies and their relationship to their daily work.
    • Ensures self and staff keep up-to-date on technical knowledge and developments that impact roles.  Uses this information to drive improvements and/or prepare for changing requirements.
    • Ensures an effective learning environment by coaching employees, orchestrating learning opportunities, and providing relevant, high-impact feedback.



    • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to ready, analyze and interpret common trade journals, financial reports and legal documents.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
    • Ability to effectively present information to top management, employees, managers, vendors and customers.
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or written form and deal with several abstract and concrete variations.


    • Bachelor’s degree in a Science related field and at least five years related laboratory experience with a minimum of two years in a Quality Management position in a food/beverage production facility and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience in food/beverage processing techniques.
    • Trained in federal food and or TTB standards
    • Trained in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP’s)
    • GFSI – SQF Practitioner

    • While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands or arms.

    • Ability to work with moving mechanical parts and loud noise levels.
