We have partnered with a large food manufacturing company in the Lynn, MA area to provide them with a Purchasing Manager.
Responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager:
Manage the day to day procurement department activities.
Develop, supervise, and direct category buyers through positive performance management.
Lead company change through process improvement, cost saving initiatives, and inventory reduction programs.
Monitor and report on key performance indicator metrics and make business decisions to drive improvement, company profitability, and increased cash flow.
Forecast price and market trends to identify changes in material price variance and support material budget development.
Perform cost and scenario analysis, work to manage, and mitigate risk, monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
Work with Operations, Finance, Development, and Quality Assurance Teams to drive efficiency improvements and inter-departmental synergies.
Attend weekly KPI meetings and action initiatives to improve quality, reduce cost and reduce inventory.
Support new raw material launches and communicate information to purchasing department.
Due to 24 hour production schedule, after hours and weekend communication may be required when issues arise.
Project Change Management – Develops Plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; completes projects on time and budget.
Understand category buyer responsibilities and be able to perform their responsibilities in the event they are not able to.
Develop, Supervise and Direct Category Buyers
Work to develop category buyers and provide meaningful business opportunities to enhance their professional experience (Metric: Personal Development Plans)
Conduct annual reviews and PDPs for all direct team members.
Create a culture of accountability and performance
Drive a focus on quality and continuous improvement
Plan work, track results and resolve variances
Develop, lead, and execute purchasing strategies
Ensure raw materials are in stock for required production.
Work to reduce inventory levels.
Look for cost saving opportunities
Ensure Quality of Raw Materials and Manage Vendors Quality Standards
Ensure product quality standards (Metric: Raw Material Rejections/Returns)
Requirements of the Purchasing Manager:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field
5+ years' experience in the food manufacturing or food processing industry preferrably chilled and/or refrigerated products
Communicate effectively with suppliers and internal customers
Strong negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, and problem solving ability
Strong working knowledge of Purchase to Pay business process
Strong understanding of ERP Systems
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to read and interpret raw material specifications and supplier documents
Work independently in a fast paced environment.
Self-starter able to conceptualize and drive initiatives forwared.
Positive attitude and motivated by contributing to the overall success of the team
Able to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
