This company was purchased from a large player in the automotive market. They retained a significant amount of the staff and have a strong customer base with recognized clients such as John Deere and Navistar. They manufacture new and remanufactured diesel fuel injectors and turbochargers for OEMs and the aftermarket.

The purchasing manager will be responsible for:

  • Overall management of direct material sourcing and supplier quality for the manufacturing plant
  • Develop and implement long term and strategic sourcing plans
  • Update and maintain all supplier sourcing guidelines, strategy, and processes
  • Supplier Contract negotiations on all parts/services, gauging and capital equipment to include delivery requirements, services, bailment, etc.
  • Lead all supplier selection and resource efforts
  • Continually investigate best technologies for application
  • Define and implement supplier cost reduction activities for savings and work with suppliers on a regular basis for improvements (track supplier delivery quality (PPM levels, PPAP on-time delivery, response time, etc.
  • Track and coordinate all Supplier Quality Improvement and Cost reduction data
  • Planning and follow-up on Capital Equipment ordering and delivery
  • Track material price development of all Direct Material (BOM)
  • Maintain Supplier relationships and manage supplier quality and services
  • Vendor Capacity planning for direct materials in conjunction with Logistics based on long term forecast to ensure timely and sufficient deliveries (in a JIT atmosphere)
  • Support Logistics in lean enterprise requirements from suppliers
  • Support Quality Assurance
  • Review and approval of supplier PPAP for direct material
  • Creation and maintenance of receiving inspection instructions for direct material
  • Own supplier documentation and evaluation process
  • Implement source inspection procedures at supplier location
  • Work with troubled suppliers to achieve required quality levels 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4year college/ in a technical or business field
  • 5-10 years’ minimum experience in an OEM automotive environment with 3 years in a supervisory position
  • Large to small scale and transitioning from one to the other
  • SAP or other ERP system knowledge
  • Strong PPAP and SQA experience
  • Experience with international purchasing/ sourcing and business relationships operations – and in particular; China
  • Extensive experience in preparing RFQs, contracts, agreements

CPM Certification is a Plus
