Job Description:
- Required Psychiatric Nurse Educator
- Provides clinical consultation and serves as a mentor and educator to advance the practice of nursing and improve patient outcomes
- Provides expert clinical consultation to improve patient outcomes
- Acts as a nursing role model and resource to staff in order to promote a highly performing interdependent team
- Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to assess, develop and evaluate education for assigned specialty area
- Coordinates with the ILD Unit based Educator and the System Educator to develop programs addressing identified educational needs within each specialty unit
- Participates in all annual education and in specific departmental training
- Assists Management in verifying staff knowledge to assure safe patient care; ensures all documentation requirements for regulatory bodies are in place
- Applies the evidence based practice process to the development of tools and pathways, which achieve quality cost effective patient outcomes
- Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies
- Promotes a culture of patient safety and serves as a patient safety advocate
- Researches, analyzes and participates in the development of process improvement strategies to ensure optimal patient care and patient safety
- Performs chart reviews and audits to supportinvestigations within the unit and standards are met; coordinates the education and sharing of chart audits and analysis with team members
- Provides analysis and input to leadership about audit trends, patient safety and quality issues
- Participates in the development of process improvement, action plans, and implementation of recommendations
- Works with Management team to design, implement and evaluate the process for collecting, tracking, and educating the nursing and medical staffs regarding performance improvement pertaining to designated indicators
- Reviews patient related documentation, medical records, and other sources to identify unsafe practices that could result in sentinel events and potential adverse events
- Participates in sentinel and adverse eventreportinvestigation
- Reviews medical records, assists in interviewing staff, examines equipment and coordinates documentation
- Participates in the development of action plans and tracks progress in correcting systematic and unit problems
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in a focus area
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice guidelines
- Ability to collaborate, consult, educate, mentor, and influence change
- Demonstrated ability at the level of an advanced practice nurse to utilize evidence to develop, teach, guide, and implement practice standards and policies
- Experience with quality and process improvement to meet National Patient Safety Goals
- Knowledge of current health care environment and adherence to National Clinical Standards in specialty area
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor?s degree in Nursing
- Master?s degreepreferred
- Five (5) years of clinical experience for unit assigned - psych
- Current Washington State RN License
