Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) chosen for this position will provide care to our hospitalized patients primarily on our inpatient hematology service, with cross-coverage responsibilities on our inpatient BMT service. This dynamic and challenging position requires excellent communication and collaboration skills. The PA will work with a high level of autonomy as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team to provide care to patients with complex hematologic malignancies who often also possess a wide range of comorbidities and internal medicine complications. Schedule is variable but will include days, weekends, and swing shifts.

The Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) is an NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is part of the University of Utah Health Care system, serving cancer patients throughout the Intermountain West. Responsibilities

This job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. The essential functions of this position include (but are not limited to):
• Conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Initiate or recommend pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies within scope of practice.
• Provide patient and family education.
• Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
• Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
• Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care initiatives.
• Participation in quality, patient experience and efficiency improvement activities.
• Meets with patients, families, and significant others about health and illness, with the goal of promoting ongoing health maintenance.
• Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
• Actively supports the Division and Program initiatives and goals.
• Works with Directors of Advanced Practice and Heme/BMT Medical Director to formulate a plan for professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.


Preferred:

  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.


This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
