Qualities of the ideal candidate:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Eight years of experience in an IT/technical role. For development only: Includes 1-3 years’ developerexperience.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Strong ability in driving business results through others, setting clear expectations, and holding accountable parties to expectations while being enabling and supportive
  • Ability to manage pressure, ambiguity, complexity, and multiple priorities well
  • Fosters strategic working relationships
  • Strong strategic/conceptual thinking skills
  • Proactively pursues continuous learning and people, process, and technological improvements
  • Software development, release and change management experience
  • Not required but a plus: PMP or CSM certifications
  • Expert knowledge of the following IT project management practices and concepts:
    • Agile software development
    • Kanban and lean principles

Job Description – Duties and Responsibilities

This staff member completes the following activities under minimal direction:

Provides expert level IT project management for software deliverables. Manages large and complex projects or multiple concurrent medium/small projects. Uses IT’s project management standards to deliver projects on time, within budget, and with agreed upon functionality and quality to internal client.

Develops, implements, and monitors technical project plans. Identifies deliverables, milestones, and tasks for the project(s). Interviews team members for estimates. Updates schedule in IT Project database. Plans and integrates schedule, resources, and deliverables with IT departments and vendors.

Develops strong relationships with client. Meets with client to advise on resources, budget, and deliverables.

Manages staff. Develops, mentors and provides guidance, training and motivation as necessary. Conducts regular one on one and staff meetings. Hires, evaluates and counsels crew. Follows corporate disciplinary procedures per established Vanguard standards as required. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback, and recommends wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
